Words to (and from) the wise

02-06-2008

Mushrooms are tasty, and they taste even better at a local osteria or trattoria, or during dinner at Il Duomo, Sicily's only Michelin two-star restaurant. Sicilian cooking is famous for its broad cultural influences, simplicity and dedication to local ingredients. And while you're keeping an eye out for the mushrooms, watch for the aranci (deep-fried rice cakes), couscous al pesce, tuna, cuttlefish, wine, swordfish, pasta, wine, juicy tomatoes, crisp peppers, soft eggplants and wine. Did we mention the wine?

Nothing works up an appetite like exercise, but we understand that not all appetites are created equal. With us, you ride at your own pace along quiet country roads, through vineyards, past baroque villages and ancient olive groves. Go 20 miles and unwind at the spa. Do 40 for a good workout. Do a century to test your mettle. Just remember that whatever awaits you at the end of your ride, you've earned it.

We're not entirely sure what this means, but rest assured that we've got the millipedes (and everything else) sorted. Sicily is one of Europe's most remote places, and it's hard to get around there on your own. Our signature blend of incredible guides, timely refreshment stops, logistical dexterity and stellar touches - such as the five-star Kempinski Giardino di Costanza hotel in Marzaro del Valo - ensures you're free to concentrate on the important stuff; namely how much fun you're having.

We can tell you about Sicily, but we'd rather show you instead. Get a detailed itinerary here and go to butterfield.com or call 1.866.551.9090 to book now.
