The Roosevelt New Orleans Lights Menorah in Celebration of Hanukkah

Domenica Restaurant Serves up Traditional Holiday Fare

NEW ORLEANS –December 3, 2012 – In observance of Hanukkah, The Roosevelt New Orleans will feature a Menorah in the hotel’s majestic lobby throughout the Jewish holiday, which begins on the evening of December 8 and concludes on the evening of December 16, 2013.  In addition, Domenica Restaurant will feature traditional favorites and offer a special Hanukkah menu.

At sundown on each night of Hanukkah, a flame on the Menorah, located just inside the hotel’s 123 Baronne St. entrance in downtown New Orleans, will be lighted by a member of the Jewish community and observed by family members, friends, hotel guests and visitors. With the final lighting on December 15, the Menorah will be fully lighted until the conclusion of the Festival of Lights at sundown on December 16.

“We’re pleased to add this new custom to our holiday celebration, which for generations has featured our beautifully decorated holiday lobby,” said Tod Chambers, general manager, The Roosevelt New Orleans. “Everyone is welcome to observe the lighting of the Menorah and enjoy our full schedule of lunchtime choirs, Teddy Bear Tea, Reveillon dinners and holiday brunches.”

Beginning at 3 p.m. each day, Chef Alon Shaya of Domenica Restaurant, also located inside The Roosevelt, will serve a special Hanukkah menu of crispy potato latkes, spinach and ricotta crespelle, short ribs “Hamin,” and traditional Hanukkah doughnuts embellished with creamy cheesecake and local satsumas.

The holiday traditions continue through the Christmas holidays with the hotel’s lobby lined with Christmas trees decorated with bows and ornaments, poinsettias and other holiday-themed displays.  A canopy of white birch branches and thousands of twinkling lights, a gingerbread house display and the Teddy Bear Tea are among some of the hotel’s favorite holiday events.
