 Spring Activities in Minneapolis Saint Paul Region Include Museums Month, Festivals, Dinosaurs and Body Worlds Exhibit

 
(Minneapolis Saint Paul, MN) The Minneapolis Saint Paul metro region offers many ways for visitors to transition from winter to summer with some great activities during the warmer spring months including some amazing exhibits at area museums.

Saint Paul’s Science Museum of Minnesota  welcomes BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life  Jan. 18 through May 5. This new exhibition from Dr. Gunther von Hagens features more than 200 human specimens preserved through the remarkable process of Plastination.

Spring break often coincides with St. Patrick’s Day and both downtowns celebrate with parades, dancing and revelry. Head to Saint Paul for the noon parade and to Minneapolis for an evening parade down Nicollet Mall.  Other Minneapolis spring events include the Auto Show Mar. 9-17,the Twin Cities International Film Festival April 11-28 and two popular shows at the Orpheum Theatre, Monty Python’s Spamalot Mar. 15-16 and Flashdance April 1-7.

 

When the weather warms in April, bring the kids to the Minnesota Zoo's Farm Babies Exhibitwhere they can interact with goat kids as well as calves, piglets, lambs, chicks and bunnies. The zoo will also bring back its dinosaur exhibit for the summer which will feature 20 life-sized animatronic creatures. Over in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Twins  return to Target Field April 1 as the team opens its 2013 season against the Detroit Tigers.

 

Spring arts and cultural events about, especially in May, when metro communities join the entire state to celebrate the second annual Minnesota Museums Month. This program is a collaboration among museums of all types—historical, art, science, military, zoos, arboretums and more—to raise awareness of the importance of museums across the state in contributing to and sustaining community. During the month, special events and programs will take place at 600 museums across Minnesota, 55 of which are located in the metro region.

 

Saint Paul celebrates its Hispanic culture on May 4 with Cinco de Mayo in the District del Sol neighborhood across the river from downtown.  Festival of Nations, an annual multicultural festival celebration with food, music, dance, demonstrations and exhibits is held May 2-5 at the Saint Paul RiverCentreThen on June 2, Grand Old Day features food, sports, artists and 20 local bands in a day-long street festival along Grand Avenue.  

 

Eagan’s  Holz Farm Spring Festival May 19 features activities for all ages at this 1940s restored park. Also check out the 30 sculptures and outdoor theatrical performances at the city’s Caponi Art Park. That same weekend, on May 18-19, Stillwater will stage its annual Rivertown Art Festival.This juried art fest draws artists from around the U.S. to display works of ceramics, clothing, drawings, glass, jewelry, paintings, photos and more.

 

In Shakopee, in the west metro, two dynamic attractions open mid-May. Canterbury Park features live horse racing Thursdays through Sundays while [Back to Press Releases Main]
