Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay Offers Plenty of Ways to Play in 2013

Annapolis, Maryland—The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) wants to make it easy for individuals to enjoy the many exciting events and activities that will be taking place in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay throughout 2013. Qingming Riverside performs at Maryland Hall

The internationally acclaimed Qingming Riverside dance company from Hong Kong and Macau will present a free performance at Maryland Hall. Known for its ability to blend East and West music and arts while featuring exquisite dancers, the flagship arts company has performed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and toured throughout China. The performance is sponsored by World Artists Experiences.

All are welcome to participate in a seminar addressing Dr. Marin Luther King, Jr.’s speech, “Where do we go from here?” Former Maryland Deputy Attorney General and current member of the Maryland State Board of Education, Donna Hill Staton, is slated to give the keynote address. The seminar will follow a panel discussion featuring students and educators from area schools.

The January 13 Lift Every Voice concert will feature gospel spirituals performed by some of the region’s finest young vocalists, including the All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis and the Singing Sensations Youth Choir from Baltimore.

Former Capital newspaper Editor Tom Marquardt will discuss his life as a community leader and local newspaper editor in the first of a six-part luncheon series. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served following the presentation.

Actress Mary Ann Jung will portray Red Cross Founder Clara Barton during the second of six winter luncheon presentations. Ms. Jung researches and writes her own scripts. In 2002, the Maryland State Arts Council awarded her top honors in the Solo Theatrical Performance category for her portrayal of Clara Barton. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served following the performance.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra performs the music of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Designed for the entire family, the concert features live, professionally performed symphonic music paired with a compelling story line and the comedic entertainment of puppeteers.
