Grassroots Snowboard Competition at Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort Highlights Top Regional Talent

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – February 7, 2008 – Starting this Saturday, the top snowboard talent in Northern California will head to Sierra™ Resort, just outside of South Lake Tahoe, for one of the premier grassroots competitions in theindustry. Held annually in February, the Sierra Series offers up-and-coming riders the opportunity to win a spot in the qualifying round in the Vans Cup, held at Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort February 29 through March 2, 2008.

Each competition in the series tests a different freestyle discipline by showcasing a particular terrain park feature kept secret until the morning of the contest. For a shot at the top prize, snowboarders must be versatile enough to excel on whichever feature is chosen for that day’s contest. The final contest, held on February 24, will test competitors on a mini-slopestyle course.

“This is one of the top amateur competitions in the industry,” said Jen Kotter, Sierra Resort’s Youth Marketing and Event Manager. “We get riders out here who are just killing it on these features. These kids have the potential to hold their own against much more experienced riders and possibly even move forward to a career of professional snowboarding. Sierra Resort is all about providing them that opportunity. We’re the spring board for them.”

Dates of the Sierra Series:
Competition #1 - February 9, 2008 (rescheduled from February 3)
Competition #2 - February 10, 2008
Competition #3 - February 17, 2008
Final Competition - February 24, 2008

Registration for each competition will take place at the event site from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Entry fee is $5. The Sierra Series is open to amateur skiers and riders of all ages. The top five competitors from each division will qualify for the final competition. Prizes for the qualifying competitions include cash and swag from the Sierra Series sponsors including Vans, Fuel TV, Nikita, Camelback, 686, Girl Powder, Pro-Tec, Smith Optics, Sapient Snowboards, Liberty Skis and Bear Naked. Prizes for the final competition include a 08-09 Double Whammy™ season pass, head-to-toe gear and clothing sponsorship and an entry into the qualifier for the Vans Cup Rail Slopestyle at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort.
