 New York, NY February 6, 2008 --   To keep what matters to visitors in site the Helsinki Tourism and Convention Bureau goes right to the source. Travelers who have been to Helsinki and those who are curious about doing so are invited to cast ballots for their favorite travel destinations and services as part of an internet voting campaign “The Best of Helsinki”. Aside from making one’s opinion count to city administrators each voter is eligible to win prizes awarded on a monthly basis.

The Best of Helsinki Awards program, now in its third year, highlights some of the city’s preferred attractions, such as the Helsinki Design District, which won awards last year.  Launched in January, the 2008 program offers travelers the chance to cast their ballots on the website  Entries will be taken through the end of October. Award winners will be announced at a special invitational gala in November and will receive one of Helsinki’s travel “Oscars”.
The Best of Helsinki Awards highlight the city’s best travel experts in five public competition categories: Best City Break Highlight, Best Winter Experience, Best Nordic Oddity, Best Family Resort & Fun, and Best Meeting Experience.

This year’s Best Nordic Oddity nominees include the “Cosy Like-a-Local Evening” that features dinner at the home of a Finnish family, Additionally, there are two categories for travel industry professionals Favorite Travel Professional 2007 and Best Incentive Experience. There are five short listed nominees – chosen for quality criteria, including the significance, capacity and customer-friendliness -- for each category and a blank for write ins.

Visit Finland in Three Easy Lessons, Inspire Clients to Do Same
Partner With Finnish Tourist Board and Sell Up

New York, NY February 6, 2008 --   Due to the new Finland Travel Agent Academy web site travel professionals may now leap into the world of things Finnish and enjoy the journey right from their PC. The Finnish Tourist Board’s recently launched Travel Agent Academy offers you a way to learn about the country of Finland and its most appealing characteristics in a format that is as entertaining as it educational.

 “More than 300 travel professionals have signed up for the program since it launched last November,” explains Finnish Tourist Board Director Joe Walkosky. “We are seeking active travel agency partners who are willing to work with us so that we can support them and send more travelers to Finland.”

Using streaming video, slide shows and other interactive media the Finland Travel Specialist educational course allows travel professionals to peruse the best of Finland at their own pace. Three chapters provide an engaging interactive overview of the country, its people and attractions.

The course opens with “Understanding Finland” which portrays Finland as a sophisticated country, with highly educated people, rich in culture and briefly covers attractions from the Arctic Circle to Finlandia Hall. Chapter 2, “Year-Round Finland” discusses the Finnish lifestyle, the importance of design in daily life, cultural venues and more. Chapter 3 “Finland Facts” provides travel logistics such as how to get to Finland and a region-by-region overview.

Agents who complete the quizzes (at the end of each chapter) qualify for the Finland Travel Specialist diploma as well as a slew of other benefits: being listed on the website as a Specialist and obtaining referrals from website; eligibility for a Finland fam trip upon successful completion of training; priority in inclusion in Destination Finland presentations, etc.; contact with supporting vendors that offer select discount deals, packages and upgraded  services for graduates and incentive gifts based on  established productivity; eligibility for 2 CEUs from The Travel Institute; priority in cooperative promotional activities with the Finnish Tourist Board.
