Top Romantic Spots Around the State for Valentines Day and Beyond

HARTFORD (February 8, 2008) Whether you prefer a cozy and quiet indoor retreat or a flirty and playful weekend of outdoor adventure, Connecticut has a variety of accommodations and attractions for the perfect romantic getaway this winter.  Why should romance be limited to just one day in February?  The chilly outside temperatures make for a great excuse to plan a “warm-up” getaway in Connecticut. So, grab your loved one and get ready to check out the top romantic spots in the state.

Romantic B&Bs and Hotels

Bed and breakfast…and lunch…and dinner. You’ll never want to leave your hideaway with Connecticut’s fancy accommodations and packages. The recently opened Silas Robbins House B&B in Wethersfield features beautiful, antique ceilings, five elegant guest rooms, a parlor, formal dining room and tearoom and, is the definition of luxury and romance.  Guests who want to venture out can enjoy a horse & carriage tour of Wethersfield and stop off at some of the town’s charming restaurants and shops. One of Connecticut’s most elegant hotels is The Delamar in Greenwich which makes for an exceptionally luxurious getaway.  Most of the rooms have balconies overlooking the harbor and all are equipped with state-of-the-art electronics as well as Italian linens, marble vanities and deep cast-iron tubs. Additionally, the hotel features the fine dining, French L’Escale Restaurant and Bar which serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and a popular Sunday brunch.

The Elias Child House and the B&B at Taylor’s Corner both in Woodstock feature the comforts and charms of Connecticut’s Quiet Corner while treating couples to fine wine this month. Both offer spectacular bottling tours and tastings at nearby Taylor Brooke Winery among other indulgences with a special “Vintage Valentine Package” available February 8-9 and 15-16. Other romantic spots to keep in mind this month include The Homestead Inn in Greenwich, Winvian in Morris and The Inn at National Hall, on the waterfront in Westport.

Dinner and a Show

Why not jazz up a romantic dinner with a visit to a local theater and take in a show Connecticut style? Enjoy a delicious, candle light dinner at West Street Grill in Litchfield and head over to the Warner Theatre in Torrington to see Grease. Experience Romeo & Juliet from the Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra at the Shubert Theater in New Haven and savor the flavors of Spain at Ibiza which was named one of the best Spanish restaurants in the U.S. by Wine Spectator Magazine.  February is full of performances at the Palace Theatre at the Stamford Center for the Arts including the Zig Zag Ballet, the Flying Karamazovs and the Benny Goodman Orchestra among others. Don’t start the night until cuisine from Palomino Restaurant in Old Greenwich has been relished. Palomino was recently named one of the year’s 10 best restaurants by Westchester Magazine.

Spa Together

One of the best ways to enjoy a romantic getaway is to become immersed in luxury at the state’s top spas.  The Spa at Norwich Inn in Norwich is set on 42 acres of beautiful woodlands and offers a choice of guestrooms, suites and villas as well as fine dining at Kensington’s restaurant or the more informal Ascot’s Pub.  The spa is currently offering chocolate spa treatments through March with choices being a Chocolate Body Polish, a Peppermint Mocha Manicure and Pedicure or a Chocolate Chip Aromatherapy Body Wrap.  The Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington rests on 58 acres of natural beauty and is nearby the Steep Rock Reserve and Shepaug River. The Inn offers five star accommodations and the Spa House is 20,000 square feet of soundproof treatment rooms, a sun-filled Garden Room, indoor pool and whirlpool, exercise studios, meditation gardens, a salon, shop and much more. Visitors have access to a personal spa adviser and use of warm-up suits, MP3 players and anything else needed during the getaway.  The Spa at Winvian Resort in Morris is a 5,000 square foot escape set on the gorgeous grounds of this romantic hideaway resort.  Signature treatment rooms include the Forty Winks Suite with a wood burning fireplace ideal for couples, a room featuring the Ayoura Tub and a wet treatment room among others. There is also the Playground filled with Yoga and exercise equipment along with the Relaxation Lounge which overlooks the gardens and reflecting pool.

Connecticut after Dark

Exploring Connecticut during the day is almost as exciting as experiencing it at night.  Known for vibrant nightlife scenes, South Norwalk, West Hartford, Stamford and New Haven offer a plethora of places to be after dark including late night dining, lively clubs and bars.  Both open 24 hours a day, the party never stops at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville and Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket.
