Frommer's® Takes Top Guidebook Honors

02-15-2008

Pauline Frommer's London and MTV Roadtrips U.S.A. Among Winners

February 2008 (Hoboken, NJ) Three Frommer's® guidebooks were granted top prizes by the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA). NATJA, a trade group of travel journalists in El Segundo, California, disclosed the honors as part of its 16 th annual awards announcement.

NATJA awards are granted by different juries each year. For the 2007 awards, the association designated a nine-member panel of officers and trustees of the Garden State Journalists Association (formerly the Working Press Association of New Jersey) to choose the honorees. Articles, books, broadcast tapes, press releases, and press kits were considered in 38 different categories for the awards.

The prize-winning titles from Frommer's® are:

*Grand Prize (one of four): MTV Roadtrips U.S.A. (June 2007). In this fun guide, a team of hip authors offer a series of cooler-than-cool Kerouac-style journeys through the U.S.—proving that the trip is the destination. Trips include a tour of the South’s best BBQ restaurants, a "Trail of the First Americans" through the Southwest, a haunted-house tour in the Northeast, and the festival circuit from New York to Tennessee. The authors recommend music, books, movies and websites to help inspire each trip.

*First Place, Best Travel Guide : Pauline Frommer's London (February 2007). Author Jason Cochran and series editor Pauline Frommer show the next generation of budget travelers how to see more and spend less in “The Other London.” The book provides tips on renting an apartment or homestay with a Londoner instead of paying a hefty price at a hotel; getting the most out of free attractions, and enjoying the city's famed West End theatre productions—from great seats and for less money.

* Honorable Mention, Best Travel Guide: Pauline Frommer's Paris (April 2007). This handy guide, by Margie Rynn and series editor Pauline Frommer, is packed with time-tested tips for experiencing all the romance and the Bohemian flair of the City of Lights without breaking the bank.

In 2006, Pauline Frommer's New York City (ISBN 978-0-470-24763-1) won first prize in the Best Travel Guide category for providing invaluable Big Apple expertise—from inexpensive accommodations in a Soho art gallery to budget Chinatown feasts to free tango lessons from the Argentine Consulate.
