The itch to travel is tough to ignore. At any moment, you're just a passport and plane ticket from new cultures, incredible terrain and unique cuisine. However, most of us don't have the luxury of freedom to flee daily life on a whim. As you carefully plan your next great escape, satisfy that traveler's tick with an array of jet-setting travel TV shows. Watch contestants compete to navigate all corners of the globe, shoppers search for new homes abroad and explorers dive into little-known American towns. These shows are your global portal to a taste of travel.

"The Amazing Race"

It's a global sprint across foreign lands. Now entering it's 23rd season, "The Amazing Race" is arguably the most successful reality show ever. The premise is simple: get from the starting line to the finish line first. Teams of two must complete culturally infused tasks in order to receive clues and advance on. Notable tasks from the last season included riding inner tubes into a manure pond, playing bagpipes while marching with the Royal Scots pipers and digging up scorpions with the Kalahari Bushmen. "The Amazing Race" will stoke your flame for adventure and inspire you to branch out on your next trip. Check your Direct TV listings for the upcoming season on CBS. If you don't have Direct TV, you can get it and watch all your travel programming at install-direct-tv.com.

"House Hunters International"

Serial travelers usually aren't satisfied with the occasional two-week trip. They want to immerse themselves in new cultures and experience. That's certainly the case for the expatriates on "House Hunters International," where foreign real estate agents show prospective buyers three local living options. Viewers get a sense of authentic culture and local architecture. If you're considering a move abroad, "House Hunters International" will give you an idea of what to expect, what you'll have to sacrifice and how to choose.

"Edge of America"

You don't have to travel far to have a completely unique adventure. On "Edge of America," reporter Geoff Edgers explores the off-beat events that entertain Americans. Get an exclusive look at tall bike jousting in Oregon or lobster boat races in Maine. "Edge of America" dives deep into the sub-cultures that foster some of the most inventive entertainment around. Watch long enough and you'll probably find a unique event near you. Save yourself the transatlantic plane ticket; there's plenty of travel potential in the good old USA. Tap into it with "Edge of America" reruns on The Travel Channel.

"Get Out Alive"

Name the one person you want by your side to take on the elements. If you didn't say Bear Grylls, you probably aren't familiar with the Englishman's impressive resume of outdoor accomplishments. Appointed the youngest-ever Chief Scout at the of 35, Grylls rose to prominence through his television series "Man Vs. Wild." Grylls is back with a new survival competition entitled "Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls." Teams of two compete in challenges across brutal terrain, including glaciers, gorges, forests and rapids. Travelers who love the outdoors will enjoy watching contestants battle the elements and each other.
