One-time-only Concert with Stewart Copeland Features Premier and 17-piece Ensemble

Coming off of The Police World Tour in late February, acclaimed drummer/composer Stewart Copeland prepares for the premiere of his newest composition in Savannah, enlisting the skills of violinist Daniel Hope. The program begins with five original compositions by Copeland performed by a 17-piece orchestra, followed by three compositions for percussion, and then the premiere performance. An on-stage interview and audience Q&A with Daniel Hope and Copeland follows, and the program ends with a screening of his Police documentary, Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out. Angelique Kidjo (Trustees Theatre on 3/29): the Queen of Afro-Pop took home a Grammy for "Best Contemporary World Music Album" for her release, Djin Djin
Jennifer Larmore (Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences on 3/21): One of the most accomplished mezzo sopranos of all time, the Atlanta-bred Larmore won a Grammy for "Best Opera Recording" as principal soloist in Humperdinck: Hansel & Gretel
Ricky Skaggs (Johnny Mercer Theatre on 3/28 with Bruce Hornsby): The incredible bluegrass tenor singer and multi-instrumentalist won the "Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album" Grammy for Ricky Skaggs & the Whites, Salt of the Earth.
Garrick Ohlsson (Lucas Theatre for the Arts on 3/30 with the Atlanta Symphony): One of the world's foremost classical pianists, Ohlsson's album Beethoven Sonatas, Vol. 3 garnered the Grammy for "Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (without Orchestra)"

Tickets on Sale Today for the 2008 Savannah Music Festival Gala on March 6th -- John Pizzarelli Quartet to Perform

The Savannah Music Festival is presenting its second annual "no-tie" concert gala, featuring New York's premier swinging crooner and bandleader, John Pizzarelli. Pizzarelli, who played to sold-out crowds at the Lucas Theatre in 2007, will offer an evening of classic standards and swooning ballads at this casually elegant fundraising event which includes a gourmet four-course dinner and lively auction. The Concert Gala is Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Armstrong Center at 11935 Abercorn Street, from 6 to 10 pm. Sponsors include Robert and Jean Faircloth (Gold Level) and Kaye and Don Kole and Barbara Treadwell of Treadwell & Associates, LLC (Silver Level). American Traditions Competition Quarterfinalists Announced

The 15th annual American Traditions Competition returns to its original venue, the historic First African Baptist Church, for its final round during the 2008 Savannah Music Festival. The illustrious four-day vocal showcase hosts 33 singers from around the United States between March 26 and 29. Judges narrowed the field of talent to these gifted vocalists after receiving the highest number of applicants in the last five years.
