ISRAELI OPERA ANNOUNCES 

2013-2014 PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE, INCLUDING  

LA TRAVIATA AT MASADA

 
 
2011's production of Aida at Masada

New York - October 4, 2013: The Israeli Opera announced its 2013-2014 schedule of performances this month, including the fourth annual Masada Opera Festival and four mega-performances of Verdi'sLa Traviata at the foot of Masada, June 12-17, 2014.

 

The Masada Opera Festival takes place in a specially crafted 'Opera Village' at the shore of the Dead Sea, including a massive stage, tiered seating for 7,500, open-air entertainment lounges and food stalls. The production of La Traviata will be conducted by Israeli maestro Daniel Oren alongside the Israeli Opera Orchestra and Chorus, and international opera stars Aurelia Florian, Celso Albelo and Ionut Pascu. 

 

The Israeli Opera will also present an assortment of special productions at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center and special venues across Israel from October 2013 through June 2014, including: 

  • Prince Igor presented by The Novaya Opera (Moscow) at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, October 2013
  • The Czardas Princess presented by The Budapest Operetta Theatre at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, December 2013
  • Un ballo in maschera, featuring Israeli vocalists Boaz Daniel, Ira Bertman and Hila Fahima at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, January 2014
  • Les Contes' d'Hoffmann starring Gustavo Porta and Vladimir Braun at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, March-April 2014
  • La Boheme conducted by Israeli maestro Daniel Oren and featuring Israeli and international vocalists at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, April-May 2014
  • A weekend of Mozart in Acre, including Don GiovanniThe Mozart Requiem, a one-hour Magic Flute for the whole family, and A Crusader's Banquet, as part of the Masada Opera Festival, June 2014
  • A one-off concert featuring the Idan Raichel Project at Masada, June 13, 2014
  • An all-Beethoven program by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Kent Nagano at Masada, June 15, 2014

"We are looking forward to the exciting schedule of operatic performances by the Israeli Opera, including next year's Masada Opera Festival," said Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America. "The much-anticipated festival is expected to draw more than 45,000 visitors from around the world for a unique combination of grand spectacle, world-class opera and the awe-inspiring history of one of Israel's greatest archeological sites."
