2013 SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH FOR TOURISM TO ISRAEL  

3.54 million visitors from around the world arrived in Israel in 2013, a new all-time high in travel to Israel, says Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America. The U.S. is the number one source of tourism to Israel (20% of tourists to Israel come from North America), followed by Russia, France, Germany and the U.K. The month of December 2013 also set a new record high, with the arrival of 24% more tourists (visitors who stayed more than one night) than in 2012. Cruise travel to Israel also increased in 2013 with the arrival of a record 257,000 cruise visitors.

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUPERSTARS TO PERFORM IN ISRAEL THIS YEAR

A selection of international music superstars have recently announced one-off performances in Israel this summer, including international pop superstar Justin Timberlake, who will perform in Israel for the first time ever at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park on May 28, 2014. Israel will also host a one-off performance by legendary folk music icon Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park, July 17; and performances by seminal rock bands The Pixies and Soundgarden as part of a two-day music festival at Tel Aviv-Jaffa's Bloomfield Stadium, June 17-18. 

NEW MEMORIAL IN TEL AVIV'S MEIR PARK COMMEMORATES LGBT VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST 

A new memorial commemorating the thousands of LGBT victims of the Holocaust was unveiled this month in Tel Aviv's Meir Park. The memorial is shaped in the form of a pink triangle, signifying the emblem that members of the LGBT community were required to attach to their clothes while being held in concentration camps, which has since been adopted as a badge of gay power by the international LGBT rights movement. The monument also features short texts in Hebrew, English and German. 

NEW LUXURY HOTELS SET TO OPEN IN TEL AVIV AND JERUSALEM THIS APRIL

Two new luxury hotels are set to open in 

Tel Aviv and Jerusalem this April. In Tel Aviv, The Norman hotel will open adjacent to the city's King Albert Square and will feature 50 individually designed rooms and suites, a Japanese-style rooftop restaurant and infinity pool.

 

In Jerusalem, the long-awaited Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem will open just a minute's walk from the Jaffa Gate to the Old City of Jerusalem, Alrov Mamilla mall and Independence Park. In addition to its Ottoman architecture and 200+ designer rooms, the hotel will feature a fitness suite and two full-service spas, as well as two restaurants and a chic lobby bar.
