February Celebrations with Monte-Carlo SBM

MONTE-CARLO – (January 30, 2014) – Did you know the Crêpe Suzette was invented by chance in Monaco at the Café de Paris?

At the end of the 19th century, the Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII of England, was a frequent and enthusiastic visitor of Monaco. While having lunch one day at the Café de Paris, Chef Carpentier was preparing pancakes with a liqueur when suddenly the contents of the frying pan burst into flames. The Prince of Wales, enchanted by the spectacle and asked the chef what the recipe was called. Thinking quickly, the chef said the recipe had been invented for the occasion and suggested that the pancakes be called “princely crêpes." In a gesture of gallantry, the Prince of Wales proposed that they be named after the charming young woman he had invited to lunch, whose name was Suzette. Hence the legendary dessert was born.

Monte-Carlo SBM's February festivities begin with a celebration of its famous crepe dessert on February 2nd. Visitors can also enjoy special Februrary offers on rooms, dining, spa and entertainment throughout the month to celebrate Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year.
