1ST QUARTER 2014 SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH FOR ISRAEL TOURISM |
Approximately 284,000 tourists from around the world arrived in Israel in March 2014, a 13% increase compared to the same period last year and a new all-time high for tourism to Israel. A total of 705,288 tourists arrived in Israel between January and March 2014, a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. The U.S. is the number one source of tourism to Israel (20% of tourists to Israel come from North America), followed by much closer destinations such as Russia, Germany, France and the U.K. |
POPE FRANCIS I TO MAKE FIRST EVER VISIT TO ISRAEL THIS MAY |
Pope Francis I will arrive in Israel for the first time ever next month as part of a pilgrimage tour to the Holy Land. During his visit, Pope Francis I will meet with local Catholic leaders and representatives of the Israel government, and tour important Christian sites in Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Room of the Last Supper and the Mount of Olives. Pope Francis I will also visit the Western Wall, Mount Herzl and Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. The Pope's itinerary will also include Jordan and Bethlehem in the Palestinian Authority. |
ISRAEL ANNOUNCES NEW EXHIBITION PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL OF POPE FRANCIS THIS MAY |
A new exhibition commemorating the legacy of Pope Paul VI is now open to the public at the Saint Saviour Monastery at the New Gate in Jerusalem's Old City, through June 30. The exhibition is designed to celebrate the arrival of Pope Francis in Israel this May, and includes 14 panels with text and photographs commemorating the first ever Papal visit to the Holy Land - made in 1964 by Pope Paul VI. www.cicts.org/ |
