Celebrate 50 Years in Space at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. (October 9, 2007) - Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is celebrating NASA’s 50 Years in Space with the inaugural World Space Expo and the first-ever Kennedy Space Center Fall Concert Series in November. Five weekends of activities are planned to celebrate five awe-inspiring decades of space exploration.

 

World Space Expo kicks-off the celebration with festivities scheduled Thursday, November 1 through Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. World Space Expo is four days of discovery to celebrate mankind’s 50 years in space.  Experience the thrill and power of America’s flight capability in a weekend air show featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the new F-22 Raptor, F-15 Eagle, F-18 Super Hornet, 920th Rescue Wing and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights.

 

Hear from Astronauts John Glenn, Scott Carpenter and a host of other space pioneers in the World Space Amphitheater.  View rarely-seen artifacts including an actual Russian Vostok space capsule, and displays of today’s space program at the Space Florida Commercial Space Pavilion.  Celebrate NASA’s 50th anniversary with special displays and interactive activities at the NASA Pavilion.  World Space Expo is co-sponsored by Space Florida and Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism. 

 

Specially-priced advance tickets are now on sale through Sunday, October 21 and can be purchased on-line at www.KennedySpaceCenter.com/WorldSpaceExpo.   Admission to World Space Expo, including regular admission to the Visitor Complex, is available at a special pre-event price of $28 plus tax for adults and $18 plus tax for children 3-11 years. This represents a $10 savings on Visitor Complex admission and allows for one day admission between November 1-4, 2007.

 

The second celebration weekend launches the first-ever Fall Concert Series at Kennedy Space Center on Saturday, November 10. The stars will be shining as the 1970’s rock band “Kansas” opens the series with a live, outdoor concert in the Visitor Complex’s iconic Rocket Garden. Live concerts are scheduled every Saturday afternoon for four weeks through December 1.

The four-weekend Fall Concert Series is free to Commander’s Club Annual Passholders. World Space Expo activities and events held at the Visitor Complex are included with the Commander’s Club Annual Pass.  The Aerial Salute to 50 Years in Space air show on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4 is $15 for Annual Passholders, to cover transportation to the NASA Causeway.
