BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS HOSTS 37TH ANNUAL SPRING REGATTA
AND SAILING FESTIVAL
SCRUB ISLAND SET TO BE GOLD SPONSOR

SCRUB ISLAND, BVI – Feb. 25, 2008 –  After 37 years of renowned sailboat racing history, the British Virgin Islands is hosting the 2008 Annual BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival  from March 31 - April 6. A strong supporter of the 2008 regatta, Scrub Island – the first resort development in the British Virgin Islands in more than 15 years – announces they have been selected as one of the event’s Gold Sponsors.

As one of the largest Caribbean events of the year, the sapphire waters come alive with more than 160 boats ranging in size from 14 to 75 feet. Spectators enjoy two great events in one as sailors tack and jib to victory during the festival and regatta. A warm-up for the regatta, the three-day BVI Sailing Festival is a no-pressure event involving racing boats from Nanny Cay on Tortola to Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda and back. For more competitive crews, the main three-day Sailing Regatta features world-class racing action and top-tier sailors from all over the world. Each day is scored separately as skippers and captains pick and choose desired events entering one or all six races.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Scrub Island to not only spread the word about our new private island but to support the British Virgin Islands,” Joe Collier, president of Mainsail Development International, said. “Sponsoring the 2008 BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival is a great way for Scrub Island to immerse itself into the BVI community.”

Opening October 2008, guests are overwhelmed by the panoramic views of Great Camanoe Islands and Marina Cay, three white sand beaches, lush foliage and picturesque waterways found at the $100 million resort. Scrub Island offers 65 inspiring accommodations ranging from rooms and suites located in the Marina Village to two to five bedroom villas scattered on the 230-acre private island. The resort also offers five star amenities including world-class spa, 60-slip marina, four exquisite restaurants and bars, amphitheatre built of natural stone and breathtaking astronomy observatory.
