COZUMEL, Mexico (February 27, 2008) - A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramid of Chichén Itzá is one of the greatest surviving monuments of the Mayan civilization. It is also the setting for one of the most spectacular sights in Mexico and the world - the ascension of the Feathered Serpent, during the spring equinox. Travelers heading to Chichen Itza will now find unparalleled lodging at the newly renovated Villas Arqueológicas hotel, located just steps from the famed archaeological site.
Providing direct access to the ruins, the Villas Arqueológicas is now offering a special room rate of just $113 per night in celebration of the March 21 equinox, making it easier for travelers to join the thousands from around the globe that flock to the pyramid at Chichen Itza each year to witness the extraordinary event. Included in the special rate is daily continental breakfast, one ticket for entry to the archaeological site, complimentary fruit basket upon arrival and taxes. Offer is based on double occupancy and is valid for stays from March 19-23, 2008. For reservations call 011-52-987-872-9300 ext. 8101, e-mail reservas@islandercollection.com or visit HTTP://wwwislandercollection.com.
Travelers unable to make it to Chichen Itza in time for the spring celebrations can enjoy the same great deal for the fall equinox, when the Feathered Serpent can be seen once again. Fall rates are valid from September 18-22, 2008. Both spring and fall offers are also valid for stays at the Villas Arqueológicas hotels in Uxmal and Coba.
An incredible example of the Mayan people's ingenuity and architectural genius, the bi-annual solar event at Chichen Itza is not to be missed. At the precise time of the spring equinox, the sun casts its rays on the El Castillo pyramid, creating the shadow of a "moving serpent" which slithers up the pyramid as the sun moves through the sky. In turn, on September 21, during the fall equinox the feathered serpent is seen descending the great pyramid.
Managed by Mexican property group Islander Collection, the Villas Arqueológicas at Chichen Itza offers guests first-rate accommodations in a Mexican hacienda-style setting. Nestled in the tropical jungle, the hotel provides a truly refreshing and relaxing escape to nature. In addition to visiting the great Mayan pyramids next door, guests can play a game of tennis, select a book from the hotel library and relax by the pool or indulge in fine cuisine at the hotel restaurant.
In addition to the Villas Arqueológicas at Chichen Itza, Islander Collection offers four more villas each adjacent to one of Mexico's leading archaeological attractions which includes the sites at Uxmal and Coba, within Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, and Teotihuacan and Cholula in Central Mexico. Although the Villas Arqueológicas properties are alike in design and size, with 40 to 45 rooms, all provide a unique setting for guests. Similar services and amenities are available at each hotel as well, with some offering additional items like the children's playground at the Villas Arqueológicas at Teotihuacan.
Established in October 2006, Islander Collection is a Mexico based property management group that oversees properties throughout Mexico including the new Aura Cozumel, an upscale adults-only resort and Preferred Boutique Hotel, and the Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa, Cozumel's largest and most complete resort that includes the Sabor, the hotel's adults-only area, and the Islander Spa, the largest spa in Cozumel. In addition, Islander recently acquired five archaeological villas, formerly owned and operated by Club Med, located at the centers of some of Mexico's most prized archaeological attractions including Coba, Cholula, Teotihuacan, Uxmal and Chichen Itza.
