An incredible example of the Mayan people's ingenuity and architectural genius, the bi-annual solar event at Chichen Itza is not to be missed.  At the precise time of the spring equinox, the sun casts its rays on the El Castillo pyramid, creating the shadow of a "moving serpent" which slithers up the pyramid as the sun moves through the sky.  In turn, on September 21, during the fall equinox the feathered serpent is seen descending the great pyramid.
