Cruise-tour packages, priced from $1,825 to $3,020 per person, double for cabins, include all meals onboard, a Captain’s Welcome dinner and farewell receptions, shore excursions, transfers and such nightly entertainment as traditional and folkloric performances. Optional three-night cruise-tour extensions, offering additional city tours, deluxe hotel accommodations, breakfast daily and transfers are available for Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Vienna or Budapest at money-saving package rates of $319 to $799. Cruise-only fares are offered at $1,550 to $2,805 for cabins and $2,255 to $3,710 for suites, without the shore excursions and transfers.
The Elbe River sailings focus on a mix of Old World cities and smaller towns filled with Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance castles, palaces and town squares. Common ports and excursions include tours of the Old Market and the Protestant Cathedral of Saints Catherine and Maurice in Magdeburg; Wittenberg, where Martin Luther began the Protestant Reformation; Meissen and its porcelain factory, Old Town, Albrecht Castle and Gothic Cathedral; a host of beautiful churches, palaces and world-class museums in Dresden, the capital of Saxony; and Prague, one of Europe’s most popular destinations, where a walking tour takes in St. Vitus Cathedral, the astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter and the Charles Bridge. Another highlight is an excursion to the 13
th-century Königstein fortress, perched high above the Elbe and offering impressive views of the river and distant mountains of Bohemia.
Other stops, depending on itinerary, are Berlin, with visits to Checkpoint Charlie, the former East-West crossing point, and the Reichstag, Germany’s parliament; the Czech Republic town of Leitmeritz, with an assortment of wonderful examples of Gothic Renaissance Baroque and Empire houses; and the lively city of Hamburg, Germany’s largest port city.
All three ships, built between 1991 and 2002 and refurbished in 2005 and 2006, carry either 79 or 106 guests and offer travelers an intimate vacation experience and the best passenger-to-crew ratio amongst all European river vessels 2.5 passengers for each staff member.
