Renowned Taste of St. Croix Part of Premier Culinary Event of the Caribbean

Chapel Hill, NC (Feb. 28, 2008) – Divi Carina Bay once again plays host to the Taste of St. Croix, inarguably the island’s most anticipated, exciting, best attended and most delicious event.  The annual tasting and culinary competition, to be held this year on April 17th, highlights the diverse and delectable cuisine of St. Croix with its influences from all around the world.  The Taste of St. Croix is part of the four-day St. Croix Food & Wine Experience.

More than 50 local restaurants come to the resort to vie for “best of” awards in over nine categories, including Best Local Fare, Best Presentation and People’s Choice.  Divi Carina Bay’s Starlite Grille will be among those serving up their specialties.  Winemakers and producers from around the world will also be in attendance.

The Taste of St. Croix was started in 2001 and moved to the Divi Carina Bay in 2003 to accommodate the increasing scope of the competition and the crowds that flock for a taste of the best of the island’s fare.  The open-air event brings nearly a thousand people to the Divi and is held under the stars, along the beach and around the swimming pool of the resort.  Divi Carina Bay hugs the white sands on the island’s south side in the tony east-end residential area and is nestled in a mountain-rimmed turquoise bay.

The Divi Carina Bay has 195 rooms.  The resort was voted Best Large Hotel in both 2004 and 2007 in the Caribbean Travel & Life “Reader’s Choice” awards.

Judges for this year’s competition include celebrity chefs Rocco DiSpirito, of TV’s “The Restaurant” fame and a James Beard Award winner; Kevin Rathbun, known in Atlanta as the “Sultan of Steak,” whose restaurants have been given top honors by both Details and Esquire magazines as well as the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and Robbin Haas, a Food & Wine “Best New Chef” winner.  The Taste of St. Croix benefits the St. Croix foundation and fosters economic and social development on the island.
