A "CrackBerry" Crack Down

The recent widespread BlackBerry outage gave about 12 million Americans a glimpse of what a BlackBerry-free life would be.

Breaking the umbilical cord that connects so many BlackBerry dependent addicts to their ubiquitous little primo-PDAs is sometimes seen as achieving digital nirvana, devoutly to be desired yet seemingly impossible to accomplish.

But now there’s hope. Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers has launched a BlackBerry Detox Challenge, urging guests to jumpstart a healthy tech lifestyle and receive various hotel perks as a reward. At least for a couple of guilt-free days.

Since millions of Americans seem dependent on their Crackberries (Sheraton’s term, not ours – we’re yet to have our first BlackBerry experience) the BlackBerry Detox Challenge encourages addicts to disconnect and reconnect to the world with simplicity, without stress or urgency. Just allow the hotel to lock up your PDA for 48-hours of personal gratification without interruption from your favorite mobile device.

The BlackBerry Detox Challenge is the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers’ way to celebrate the first anniversary of its unique BlackBerry Check-In Program created to help peoplebreak thehabit.One year later, the hotel is calling all e-mail addicts to participate in the new Detox Challenge, especially those who resolved to disconnect in the New Year.
