Festivals and Fishing in The British Virgin Islands

VIRGIN GORDA, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS - MARCH 14, 2008 - The British Virgin Islands invites celebration-seekers to experience the 2008 Easter Festival -- one of the most beloved Caribbean events of the year -- from March 20 - April 6. Presented by Spanish Town, the capital of Virgin Gorda, the uncrowded haven comes alive with visitors reveling in an unforgettable spring tradition.
From hip-wiggling calypso music, scratch and fungi bands, to food fairs and colorful parades, guests enjoy 18 eventful days of festivities throughout Spanish Town. Days and nights are filled with endless moments of contests, authentic BVI cocktails - including The Painkiller - and local delicacies.
For guests that would rather reel in the holiday a different way, the British Virgin Islands presents the 12th Annual Wahoo Tournament and Spanish Town Fisherman's Jamboree. Offering fishing enthusiasts the ultimate competitive sport-fishing event in the Caribbean, the three-day tournament is held Mach 21 - March 23. Hosted by Andy's Chateau Dockside, proud winners receive cash prizes for categories such as "Heaviest Wahoo," "Heaviest Overall Catch" and "Heaviest Other Species of Fish." Consolation prizes are also awarded for the categories of "Best Angler," "Youngest Angler," "Best Female Angler," and "Best Captain." As the ideal location for sportsmen around the globe, the BVI provides the most diverse fishing and most constant source of marine life in the Caribbean.
The BVI boasts no high-rise hotels, no casinos and no traffic, rather, the purity of the land -- from pristine beaches with powdery sand and crystal clear waters home to an aquarium of the world's most diverse sea life, to extensive coral reefs responsible for claiming renowned wrecks and vast Outbacks sheltering endangered species. The BVI is rich with the storied islands of Norman, Deadman's Chest and Anegada, while the islands of Peter, Necker, and Guana anchor luxury resorts and sun worshippers find a haven on Jost Van Dyke, Cooper Island and Virgin Gorda.
