Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort Transforms into a Passover Destination this April

03-19-2008

Getaway will offer time for inspiration, relaxation and education;
Speakers to include Hadassah Lieberman, wife of the Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – (March 10, 2008) – Increasing numbers of Americans are seeking Passover vacation destinations that offer both a meaningful religious experience and a relaxing retreat. Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina is one of a select number of U.S. hotel properties that is taking the necessary measures to offer a kosher Passover retreat this spring. The resort, tucked away on Maryland’s scenic Eastern Shore, is partnering with HLF Leisure Tours to offer a getaway for the eight-day Jewish festival, designed to educate, inspire and entertain the entire family. This year’s Passover celebration is scheduled for April 18 through April 28, 2008, and will feature nationally-renowned speakers, such as Hadassah Lieberman, wife of the Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman.

 “An estimated 250,000 people in the United States celebrate Passover by vacationing together as a family,” said Josh Lewis, vice president of HLF Leisure Tours, a Baltimore-based tour operator and caterer. “We created this Passover celebration at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay because we saw a need for more destinations that offer all generations of the family a place to gather and focus on their faith, de-stress and just have a great time.”

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay and HLF Tours will work together onsite several days in advance of the 10-day celebration to prepare for Passover guests. The transformation includes converting the kitchen into a kosher facility; creating an on-site synagogue; customizing other parts of the property in accordance with Passover traditions; and organizing activities such as a lecture series, Seders, children’s programs and more.

Executive Chef Tony Breeze and his culinary team play an integral role in the Passover celebration. Together with HLF Leisure Tour’s Israeli-trained chef, they plan a week’s worth of flavorful Glatt Kosher and Cholov Yisroel cuisine for an estimated 700 guests including dishes such as Almond Encrusted Chicken with a raspberry-chardonnay sauce and Teriyaki Norwegian Salmon garnished with a mango-melon salsa. Preparation includes the deep cleaning of one of the resort’s kitchens to create a completely kosher setting. Special china, silver and Passover foods are also brought in, and the resort’s culinary team is trained to ensure that meals are prepared in a kosher manner.

Other areas of the resort are customized for the week as well. A synagogue is created in the meeting room, complete with an ark and scroll. To keep with tradition, one of the resort pools will be tented and heated, and set-up to offer separate swimming times for men and women. In accordance with the tradition of not using electricity on the Sabbath, a set of elevators are set to automatically stop at each floor and an attendant is designated on the floors to open the electronic guestroom doors.

 “We started this event last year with HLF Tours and it was such a tremendous success with guests, we have decided to continue the partnership,” said Fred Findlen, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. “In addition to the enormous array of on-site amenities such as our spa, marina, golf course and extensive meeting space, the resort staff is prepared to accommodate any special needs a group of guests may have.

A variety of Passover activities will be offered during the week, along with the resort’s recreational amenities. In addition to Hadassah Lieberman, the lecture series will feature other renowned speakers such as Dr. Norman Lamm, Chancellor of Yeshiva University, and other rabbis, experts, and psychiatrists. Groups taking part in the Passover festivities can also enjoy a lavish 24-hour tea room; Shiurim and daf yomi; private and public Seders; cooking demonstrations, a teen program; babysitting; day camp; a Beis Medrash; wine tasting; as well as day trip and tours to places such as Washington, DC. Resort amenities include an 18-hole Keith Foster Championship golf course and driving range, award-winning European Spa, a Marina, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, miniature golf, arcade and game rooms, pet-friendly guest rooms and much more.

HLF Tours’s Passover celebration at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort offers several packages, which are priced starting at $1,095, per person for three nights. Rates are inclusive of all meals and most activities; tax and resort fee are not included. Packages are available from Saturday, April 18 and through Sunday, April 28, 2008.
