Folklore, Food and Fun with Pennsylvania Dutch Flair

It’s the Klutztown Folk Festival – often considered the premier folklife festival in the U.S. The Washington Post describes it as one of the “must see” festivals in the Middle Atlantic region.

Just like the Fourth of July, the Kutztown Folk Festival is a one-of-a-kind American experience. In fact, it’s the nation's oldest continuing folklife festival – as well as one of the very best – and for 58 years America 's Independence Day has been its focal point.

The 58th annual celebration of everything Pennsylvania Dutch, the Kutztown Festival runs from June 28th thru July 6th, 2008. As in years past, this year’s festival features folk art exhibits, crafts, quilts, antiques, collectibles, entertainment, food and family fun. Traditions, entertainment, and family fun all with a Pennsylvania Dutch flavor will abound.

Kids, cookies and horsing around are part of the Kutztown Festival's appeal.

A favorite first stop for many visitors is the festival’s quilt barn, where more than 1,400 locally made quilts and wall hangings are displayed for lookin’ and buyin’.

On the second Saturday of the festival, the 24 quilts judged to be the best of the show will be auctioned off in an event that draws collectors form the world over.

Every day of the festival will offer demonstrations of traditional crafts by 200 of America’s most respected folk artists and craftsmen. The demonstrations will include pottery making, woodcarving and weaving.
