MONTPELIER, Vt. - Skiers and riders in Vermont are met with an Easter celebration that hundreds of families have enjoyed for generations - Sunrise Services offer those who would like to reflect on the holiday a restorative moment amongst stunning mountaintop scenery. The tradition carries on this weekend, Sunday, March 23 at the following resorts who have offered the service for 10 to 50 plus years:
Stowe Mountain Resort
Smugglers’ Notch
Jay Peak
Killington
Sugarbush
Mad River Glen
Bromley
Ascutney Mountain
In addition to the Sunrise Service, some resorts offer festive activities for the family, special holiday meals and of course, an Easter Egg Hunt even Mom and Dad will love; Okemo skiers and riders will find a golden egg and win Skis or a Snowboard from Atomic and at Mount Snow, the egg scores a season’s pass!
This year’s date is one to note. This weekend is the earliest that Easter is celebrated, because it is based upon the Lunar cycle; the next Easter in March will be in 2016.
Convenient for snow enthusiasts, Easter can be celebrated on fresh powder, with Vermont’s current cumulative average statewide snowfall at 196 inches, with reports of a more than 280 inch average in certain mountain regions.
Once the Bunny has left the mountain, the snow, however is still accumulating. After Easter, there’s another five to six weeks more spring skiing and riding to enjoy, with a host of Vermont’s notoriously hysterical events.
For a list of the special ways to spend Easter weekend on the mountain with family and for upcoming pond skimmings, Reggae fests or crazy contests, please visit the Ski Vermont Event Listings.
