March News From Denmark
Happy and Healthy in Denmark
In the past month, both CBS's 60 Minutes and ABC's 20/20 focused on the Danes' consistently strong world rankings in terms of happiness, life satisfaction and contentment. It all has to do with managing your expectations and taking pleasure in what's truly important - family, health and leisure. One way to enjoy all three is to get around like the Danes do: on a bike. It's good for your health and for the environment, and it's an easy, economical way to go exploring. Sightsee for Free
You don't have to look far to find bargains in Denmark. Admission is free at several sites, including the National Museum (which opens a new Danish pre-history archaeological exhibition in May) and at the Museum of Danish Resistance. Many more museums throughout Denmark, including Statens Museum for Kunst (the National Gallery), Thorvaldsens Museum, the Hirschsprungske Collection and Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteket in Copenhagen, offer free admission on select weekdays or to select collections. The CPH Card gives you free or discounted admission to more than 60 sites in and around Copenhagen, plus unlimited travel on public transport. A 24-hour card, which costs about $41 for adults and $27 for kids, pays for itself even if all you do is visit Tivoli Gardens and Amalienborg Palace (two of the city's top attractions). Round out your day with a visit to the top of Rundetaarn for the best views around, Kunstindustrimuseet (Museum of Decorative Art) and the outstanding Danish Design Centre and you've scored the best deal in town!
