No Really, there is an affordable Europe

04-01-2008

A Week in the Azores is a mere 4 hours and $999 away

Boston, MA - Quick, name the place in Europe that is just four hours away, has palm trees and bananas, and is affordable and fun? The mild Atlantic breezes of the volcanic Azores Islands are a real deal this spring, as Azores Express, announces its Spring Azores Explorer' Packages with air/hotel starting at just $999 per person roundtrip air to the Azores. This includes six nights lodging, and feature 12 hotels on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira, and Faial.  Packages are valid from March 1 to June 15th. The Azores Islands are Europe's closest point to the United States. A 4-hour flight from Boston will transport travelers to this beautiful destination for an affordable price.

So, the question is, how can it be so affordable with the dollar hovering around $1.60 to the Euro? The package hotel prices were set last summer, in dollars, making today savings today close to 60%, says airline manager Nuno Puim.

Direct flights from Boston to Portugal's Azores Islands depart Tuesdays and Fridays through June 2008. For Tuesday departures, packages range from $999 to $1,299, per person, double occupancy (plus taxes and fees). That represents a savings of almost 50%. Friday departures are just $80 more. For just a few hundred dollars each way, passengers can upgrade from coach to SATA Comfort Business-Class. All packages include breakfast. Kids under 6 stay free, and pay only a child's airfare.

Visitors to the Azores will enjoy a pleasant climate for exploring quaint seaside villages, bustling harbors, and unique cities overflowing with architectural treasures. The islands offer churches, palaces, and museums framed by the sea and mountainous landscape. Travelers interested in taking the unbeaten path can walk around volcanic mountainsides, cool off in a natural swimming pool formed when volcanic lava met the cold sea or they can view a lush garden at the bottom of a volcanic crater.

Azores Express has connected New England with the Azores and mainland Portugal for more than 20 years. Today it offers direct flights on wide body A310 aircraft to São Miguel, the main island in the Azores archipelago. Connecting flights from São Miguel to Lisbon, Porto and/or the island of Madeira are available. The company is part of the SATA Group.
