Experience the Tour de France

04-17-2008

 EPIC CLIMBS with REI Adventures

If you’ve imagined conquering the Alp d’Huez stage of the Tour de France, then REI Adventures’ “EPIC Climbs of France” is a one-of-a-kind cycling trip, you should plan to experience. New for 2008, expert, local guides are taking cyclists through some of the same routes featured in the Tour de France through three regions of France including the Alps, Provence and the Pyrénées.

There’s a good reason why cycling is a national obsession in France and why the greatest cycling event in the world takes place there: with its picturesque scenery through jagged mountain ranges or narrow streets through charming towns, there’s no better place to be on two wheels.

Although a support vehicle will be in tow, this trip is not for the weary! After conquering the 21 famous switchbacks of Alp d’Huez, we’ll climb the daunting, yet captivating, climb up Col du Galibier. Next we transfer to Provence where the seemingly interminable Mont Ventoux awaits. Finally, we will chase down the summits of the Pyrénées with epic rides up (and down!) Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden and Hautacam while staying at a hotel dedicated to cycling great Laurent Fignon!

If you are serious about cycling, interested in the legend and lore of the Tour de France, and have caught yourself wondering just what it takes to cycle the spectacular, and difficult, mountains in southern France made famous by Le Tour, then our new Epic Climbs of France itinerary is just for you!
