Shaw Festival Reaches Out with Reading Bernard Shaw’s Village Wooing

10-23-2007

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, October 15, 2007 … Shaw Festival actors Jim Mezon and Catherine McGregor are hitting the road this fall with a reading of Bernard Shaw’s Village Wooing. Funded by the Government of Ontario’s Celebrate Ontario Festival and Event Enhancement initiative, the Shaw on the Road series brings a taste of the Shaw Festival experience to Hamilton, Guelph and Toronto.

With amazing brevity and light humour Bernard Shaw’s Village Wooing weaves in many of his favourite themes, such as women's rights, the battle of the sexes, economics, and the role of the writer in shaping opinion. This witty one-act gem consists of three conversations which take place in the early '30s between a rather testy Shavian gentleman and a plucky village shopkeeper.

An Ensemble member at the Shaw Festival for 24 seasons, Jim Mezon has appeared in over 32 productions at The Shaw. Most recently, he appeared as Danforth in the 2006 production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and directed Bernard Shaw’s Too True To Be Good. Catherine McGregor has been with The Shaw for eight seasons, appearing most recently in the 2006 productions of Ruth and Augustus Goetz’s The Heiress and Bernard Shaw’s Arms and The Man.

Questions will be taken after each reading. Admission to all Shaw on the Road events is free.
