CAIRO, EGYPT Egypt and the River Nile: The names, while familiar, evoke exotic images. As potential destinations, they’re as likely as not to appear on most travel wish lists and can comprise that “trip of a lifetime.” The all-inclusive, 9-night “Legends of the Nile tour package, offered by AHI International Corporation, hits all of the hot buttons as it takes you to where history stretches back over many millennia.

You’ll marvel at the ruins of Memphis, with its colossal statue of the pharaoh Ramses II, and visit the seemingly endless Valley of the Kings. Your journey into antiquity begins with a flight from your gateway city to Cairo, where you will spend four nights at the deluxe Nile Hilton Hotel (with a full breakfast each morning). Located in the heart of the city, overlooking the river and close to major sights and excellent shopping, the modern hotel has a disco, casino, health club, swimming pool and tennis and squash courts. Spacious guestrooms are air-conditioned and feature direct-dial telephones and satellite television.

In Cairo, you’ll visit the world-renowned Egyptian Museum with its royal mummies and splendid riches from the tomb of Tutankhamen. You’ll also visit Memphis, capital of Egypt’s “Old Kingdom” and to historic Sakkara to view the famous Step Pyramid of Zozer. A tour of Coptic and Islamic Cairo includes lunch at Naguib Mahfouz restaurant and free time at the Khan el Khalili Bazaar. Lunch also is included in an excursion to see the Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx.

Next, is a flight from Cairo to Luxor to embark the deluxe Sonesta St. George I for a five-day, four-night cruise to Aswan. All cabins face outward and offer climate control, 23-inch flat-panel LCD television with international channels and bathrooms fitted with a spa unit featuring steam shower, Jacuzzi and water massage. International cuisine is featured, and the piano bar offers live music. The Main Lounge is the venue for such events as welcome reception, fancy-dress galabeya party and Nubian folkloric show. The ship also has a swimming pool and a fully equipped spa and fitness center.

Excursions are provided to Luxor with its astounding display of temples and tombs and to the sound-and-light show at the Temple of Karnak. You’ll travel to the extraordinary Valley of the Kings and Queens to see ancient tombs hidden in the sand.

Your itinerary includes visits to the exotic cities of Edfu and Kom Ombo and to the Temple of Philae and the Aswan High Dam. You’ll cruise around Kitchener’s Island aboard an authentic felucca, the timeless craft of the Nile.

You’ll fly from Abu Simbel to Cairo and spend a night at the elegant Sheraton Heliopolis. A continental breakfast is provided before departure.

Included in the price of $4,919 per person (based on double occupancy) with departure from New York or Newark is round-trip airfare via scheduled wide-body jet service, plus round-trip motorcoach transfers between the airport and hotels (including baggage handling at hotels). Included, too, are flights within Egypt.
