Tips & Bits

New Swiss Economy seats
Most airlines are promoting bigger and better business and first class seats but what about the rest of us – the majority of the world that flies coach? Where does all the extra room to make business and first class seats come from? How about coach seats? That’s why we were intrigued when we read that Swiss International Air Lines’ European fleet – 52 aircraft – underwent changes in their economy seats. They actually gave travelers more leg room. The new Recaro seats consist of carbon frames and leather upholstery. Additional leg room was made available by placing the seat pocket at the rear higher than on previous seating models. Since the new seats are constructed of lighter materials, there is substantially lower aircraft weight, too, which permits corresponding further reductions in fuel burn. Now if only other airlines would follow. For more info on Swiss, visit www.swiss.com.
