Bayou in the Butte – A Louisana Swamp Party in the Colorado Rockies

05-09-2008

Crested Butte gets a little “spicy” with great outdoor concerts & cuisine on June 14 - 15

GUNNISON-CRESTED BUTTE, COLORADO (May 8, 2008) — Mike Marchitelli, a well-known Crested Butte chef and proprietor of Marchitelli’s Gourmet Noodle, is bringing back “Bayou in the Butte – A Louisiana Swamp Party” to welcome summer in a big way.  On June 14 and 15, great bands will heat up the atmosphere on the Crested Butte Center for the Arts’ outdoor stage as concert-goers sample Louisiana cuisine served by several local restaurants and caterers.

Expect dishes such as boiled crawfish, alligator, blackened scallops and more.  The Mountain Sommeliers Wine Garden and Marchitelli’s Gourmet Noodle Beer Garden will quench thirsty appetites and provide prime spots to listen to four bands daily.

On both days, the gates open at 10 a.m. and bands play from 11 a.m. to approximately 7 p.m.  The bands embody all different styles of Louisiana-style music like funk, jazz, blues, zydeco, and Cajun.

  • June 14 - The Saturday lineup includes return guests Big Red & The Zydeco Playmakers along with Creole Cowboys, The Iquanas, and Solar Junkyard.
  • June 15 - On Sunday, Marcia Ball is back for the second year and will be joined by Papa Mali, Big Red & The Zydeco Playmakers, and Solar Junkyard.

To round out the fun, booths offering facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, henna tattoos and hair extensions will be available, and local artists will be selling their creations.  Children are welcome to attend, with two “bump and jumps” on hand to bounce to the tunes.

Tickets will be sold at the gate, with the price being $25 per day.  Kids up to 16 years of age pay their age.  Proceeds will benefit Stepping Stones, a local daycare and preschool, and Shreveport Providence House, a residential development center for homeless families with children that is based in Shreveport, La.

Marchitelli’s interest in Louisiana stems from attending the New Orleans Jazz Festival numerous times and graduating from Tulane UniversityFor information, visit www.bayouinthebutte.com.
