Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest™

05-21-2008

With food, flavors, and fun, the  first annual Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest™will spotlight area wineries, and so much more, on Memorial Day Weekend

Sixteen of the finest area wineries will sample and sell their vintage selections as part of the first annual Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest™ on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24 and 25.  This new feast for the senses will also feature culinary celebrities, cooking demonstrations and “side dish” talks, breweries, artisans, and great music.

The event will be held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate and Winery in Lancaster County, PA, one of the most fertile farmlands in the U.S.  The PA Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau is co-organizer of the event, and one dollar of each ticket purchase will be donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

With the help of signature partners Pennsylvania Preferred and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, the Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest will offer a taste of the state’s dazzling array of culinary, beer, and wine offerings, along with the finest in Pennsylvania artisan crafts and some fabulous musical entertainment

According to the Pennsylvania Wine Association, the state’s moderate climate and rolling terrain provides some of the best growing conditions on the East Coast, and PA wineries produce a delightful array of varieties.  Based on the knowledge and passion of its winery owners, Pennsylvania’s wine industry is growing in both production and reputation.  These family-owned agricultural operations have also developed a special brand of hospitality, which is offered to the many thousands who visit the wineries each year.

Adding to all the wonderful fare, fun yet educational “side dish” talks and cooking demonstrations will be served up by respected industry insiders, including celebrity chef Jim Coleman of PBS’s “Flavors of America” and nationally-known beer and spirits connoisseur Lew Bryson, each of whom will conduct two entertaining presentations apiece on both Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, various vendors will sample and sell their delicious featured foods.  Selected members of the Pennsylvania Guild will also offer culinary-themed items among their artistic creations, as well as demonstrate their finely-honed skills throughout the weekend.  To round out this celebration, a mix of Pennsylvania-based and national touring musicians will create an “entertainment in the park” atmosphere.

Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this exciting new event to kick off the summer, May 24 & 25:  11a.m. – 6p.m. Saturday and 11a.m. – 5p.m. Sunday.  Admission is $15.95 for adults and $6.95 for children ages 5 to 11.  Visit www.GreatPAFlavorFest.com for further information.  Mount Hope Estate and Winery is located on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, Route 72, ½ mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266, 15 miles north of Lancaster, and 14 miles east of Hershey.
