FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE WAYFARERS COURTS GOLFERS WITH COMPLIMENTARY GREENS FEES ON THEIR AUSTRIA ITINERARY

05-24-2008

Newport, Rhode Island, May 2008 – This fall, walkers who share a love of the links will discover a Wayfarers experience tailored for them.  For the first time, The Wayfarers adds one round of complimentary greens fees per person on each of the three courses visited in its September 14-20 Austrian walking adventure, Innsbruck to Salzburg.  The golf-walk holiday includes tee times against a striking Alpine backdrop, allowing golfer-walkers a unique opportunity to explore the storybook Austrian Alps on foot and soak in even more scenery on some of the world’s most beautiful golf courses.  The seven-day journey also includes stops at Austria Golf Olympia CourseAlpengarten, the highest botanical garden in Europe, and Hohensalzburg, an awe-inspiring fortress.  Rated moderate with 7 -11 miles of walking per day over well-maintained mountain paths and grassy meadows, the Walk is priced $3,595 per person, based on double occupancy, and includes one round of golf per person on each of three courses.  Single supplements are available.

In keeping with The Wayfarers’ hand-crafted approach, the Walk leader is Jane Eberhardt, an accomplished golfer who will share her ‘insider’ knowledge about the courses:  Sporthotel Igls in Innsbruck, which recently unveiled Olympia Igls, a beautiful new 9-hole course; Kitzbühel, known as the Alpine Center for golf because it is home to four first-rate courses and hosts 13 tournaments every summer; and the picturesque Maria Alm course in Leogang.

“I doubt there is a better setting for a golf course anywhere,” said Christopher Hague, co-founder of The Wayfarers, one of the world’s premier purveyors of walking adventure vacations.   “This journey is a walker’s dream, revealing the country’s beautiful Sound of Music setting with its colorful Tyrolean chalets and churches, Hapsburg palaces, and charming hotels.”

Like the golf courses featured on the itinerary, the hotels on the Innsbruck to Salzburg Walk are quintessential Austrian treasures.  In Innsbruck, participants will stay in Sporthotel in the Olympic Village of Igls, on a plateau nearly 3,000 feet above the village. Originally designed and built in 1889 by Max Haas, a prominent local architect, Igls features a host of activities for sports enthusiasts as well as relaxing health and beauty facilities.  In medieval Kitzbuhel, Hotel Kaiserhof is set in the Austrian Alps and offers an exceptional wellness center with indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms and solarium.  En route to Salzburg, participants spend two nights in Leogang at Kirchenwirt Landhotel, a relaxing retreat featuring some of the inn’s stone walls and vaults which date back more than 600 years.
