130-page guide filled with everything visitors need to know about visiting Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH –The new 2008 Official Visitors Guide (OVG) to Pittsburgh is ready to be devoured.

The 130-page guide is chockfull of information on more than 600 attractions, hotels, restaurants, events and more. Highlights include information on Pittsburgh’s 250th Anniversary Celebration with details about the Great Allegheny Passage, Festival of Lights, Federated Investors Parade of Champions, American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania and the recently published new driving guide, “Pennsylvania’s Forbes Trail: Gateways and Getaways Along the Legendary Route From Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.”

A familiar icon is pictured on the OVG cover – an image that features a striking resemblance to “the world’s favorite ketchup.” The guide’s “ingredients” include: “World-famous museums and galleries; champion sports teams; fascinating architecture; scenic rivers, parks and trails; friendly people, chic shops; dazzling nightlife; eclectic dining; renowned performing arts and first-class hotels.”

“Visitors will easily find everything they need to know about visiting Pittsburgh in this one-of-a-kind guide,” said Joseph McGrath, VisitPittsburgh’s president and CEO.  “The guide is easy to read and packed with useful information. It features all the components that will make up a great Pittsburgh experience.”

The user-friendly guide features extensive information on fun things to see and do, accommodations, dining and nightlife and shopping. The dining section details the type of cuisine each restaurant serves; the accommodations listings provide average room rates; while the shopping section features descriptions to guide shoppers. A convenient index makes referencing a breeze. In addition, detailed maps are provided, along with other pertinent transportation information.

In honor of Pittsburgh’s 250th Anniversary Celebration, the guide book also features interesting “Pittsburgh Firsts” – such as the first heart-liver-kidney transplant and the first gas station – as well as an abbreviated listing of “250 Cool Things to See & Do in Pittsburgh and Its Countryside.”
