2. Living Zurich Media Award 2008.

The American journalist, Gregory Katz, won the LIVING ZÜRICH MEDIA AWARD. In his article entitled "Out of the blue", which was published in "American Way Magazine" on 1 April 2007, he describes Zurich as "Europe’s little secret": compact, perfectly proportioned and beautiful. 55-year-old Gregory Katz was delighted to accept the LIVING ZÜRICH MEDIA AWARD and the prize money of 20,000 euros (U$ 31’000), which he received on 13 May in the town hall. Anne Fournier from the French-speaking part of Switzerland came second and the Italian, Elvira D'Ippoliti, was delighted to come third. A total of 59 media representatives from 11 countries took part.

3. Flumserberg: Goat-Leasing.

The offer includes: Goat certificate and informational material on the goat, free visit to the wonderful Seebenalp when the goats are milked, cheese at discounted rates, 1 Alpine summer day with the goat keeper upon appointment, 1 round trip to Tannenboden, Maschgenkamm, free meals on the goat farm and care of the fascinating mountain landscape.

4. Solstice Hiking: June 21-22, 08.

This year's Switzerland's Night Hiking event falls on the shortest night of the year, the summer solace. Cool moonlight, bizarre nocturnal landscapes and unfamiliar sounds; nighttime hiking lures you to the great outdoors. Initiated by the Swiss Hiking Federation, around 80 regional event organizers turn early-summer nights into unique and memorable experiences for people of all ages. Various transport companies and catering concerns open their doors in the dark hours. The varied offers range from straightforward moonlight hikes, fairy-tale times and wildlife watching to arrangements with overnight accommodation. Guided hikes are in three categories: easy, medium and demanding and take from 2 to 6 hours.

5. Computer centre heats local pool.

A neighborhood pool will take the heat from a new computer centre in Uitikon, near Zurich, drawing the hot air thrown off by servers and communications equipment. Heat produced by computers has been used to warm nearby offices in a few cases, but the decision to warm a town pool appears to be a first. IBM built the data center recently. Typically, air conditioners blast computers with chilly air to maintain an optimal 20 degree Celsius, and then pump the hot air outside. The heat generated by the hardware would be enough to heat as many as 80 houses. In Uitikon, it will heat water that will then be pumped into the pool. "This article first appeared in the May issue of Swiss News".
