Regent Seven Seas Cruises is pleased to present the May edition of the “Regent eNews Briefs” newsletter.

In this edition, we celebrate the end of another Regent Seven Seas World Cruise, the 115-night sojourn aboard Seven Seas Voyager. The journey resulted in a new company record and also earned an important distinction from a key U.S. authority for the all-suite, all-balcony vessel.  

Also featured is information on an upcoming “Spotlight on Food and Wine” voyage in the Black Sea aboard Seven Seas Navigator. This once-in-a-lifetime journey will feature the expert perspective of acclaimed American chef Stephen Lewandowski of New York City’s Tribeca Grill, who along with other experts will host caviar and Champagne tastings in Russia, the Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria. The voyage will also feature artists from the Florida Grand Opera, who will present arias about Champagne and great operatic meals as Seven Seas Navigator traverses the Black Sea.

Seven Seas Voyager completes 2008 World Cruise in perfect condition
On April 30, Seven Seas Voyager docked in Port Everglades, Florida, concluding her 115-night, 2008 World Cruise, which began in San Francisco on January 6. The 2008 World Cruise was the longest and most extensive voyage in the history of Regent Seven Seas Cruises to date, calling at 51 ports in 26 countries across the South Pacific, Orient and Arabia, the Mediterranean and Bermuda.

Not only was this World Cruise the longest ever for Regent Seven Seas, but it also concluded with an important achievement for Seven Seas Voyager: the 2003-built ship earned a perfect score of 100 on a surprise inspection by the United States Public Health Service’s Vessel Sanitation Program. Finally, Seven Seas Voyager’s circumnavigation set yet another company record: the ship’s crew unloaded an astonishing 4,500 pieces of luggage in a new record time of two hours and 15 minutes.

In the World Cruise tradition, the last segment of the voyage featured fun activities for guests and some well-earned recognition for the outstanding crew aboard Seven Seas Voyager.  One couple hosted an “End of the World Cruise” party for their fellow guests, who were challenged to “Dress as Your Favorite Tourist.” Another guest hosted an ice cream social for the crew in thanks for their excellent service throughout the journey. Later, the annual World Cruise White Elephant auction raised more than $15,000 for the crew’s welfare fund.

Celebrity Chef To Host “Spotlight” on Black Sea cuisine
Stephen Lewandowski’s love of cooking goes back to age 12, when he would help his father prepare the family’s Sunday dinners. Working for catering companies throughout high school, he entered the Culinary Institute of America (C.I.A.) on his 21st birthday. This summer, he will be the featured host aboard a 10-night “Spotlight on Food and Wine” journey from Athens to Istanbul departing August 30, 2008 aboard Seven Seas Navigator.

After graduating from the prestigious C.I.A., Stephen cooked at some of Manhattan’s top eateries, including Abbey, Gotham Bar & Grill and Fantino, in the Ritz Carlton hotel. He joined Tribeca Grill in 2000 and was named Executive Chef in 2003. This summer, the acclaimed American chef will lead caviar and Champagne tastings and also explore Greek, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian and Bulgarian culinary influences, bringing these diverse cooking styles into focus for guests aboard Seven Seas Navigator.

The voyage will also feature the talented artists from the Florida Grand Opera, who will provide inspiring arias about Champagne and great operatic classics to salute the fulfilling combination of wine, food and opera. Ports of call will include Mitilini, Greece; Trabzon, Turkey; Sochi, Russia; Yalta, Sevastopol and Odessa, Ukraine; Constanta, Romania and Nessebur, Bulgaria before concluding in Istanbul on September 9. 

"Spotlight" cruises feature lectures and entertainment options focused on specific themes and interest areas. These are complimentary to all guests on the voyage.

Regent Seven Seas Ships Meet in Bermuda
Guests aboard Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Mariner experienced an extraordinary treat recently, as the celebrated ultra-luxury ships docked side-by-side in Hamilton, Bermuda on April 25.

The dual docking marked a rare event for Regent Seven Seas and its guests. The line’s international itineraries seldom allow the ships to cruise the same regions of the world simultaneously, let alone meet in the same port. Seven Seas Mariner was the midst of a 12-night Bermuda cruise from Fort Lauderdale while Seven Seas Voyager was completing a 17-day Piraeus, Greece to Fort Lauderdale segment on the final leg of its World Cruise.

Regent Seven Seas hosted a dual-vessel, bloody mary cocktail party in honor of this extraordinary mid-voyage meeting, welcoming guests to visit either ship for a historic celebration that began at 10 a.m. Saturday and lasted through the day.

While the Bermuda meeting was unusual, it marked the third visit to Bermuda this year by a Regent Seven Seas ship. Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Navigator each visited Bermuda in April.
