State Offers Variety of Late Summer Events

 

August 28, 2008 (Massachusetts) – Although the carefree days of summer are beginning to wind down, there are still several weeks of warm weather ahead to enjoy. From boat races to chowder festivals and outdoor concerts, Massachusetts will host an array of outdoor events for visitors to experience before the crisp fall season moves in.

Gloucester Schooner Festival August 29-September 1

Enjoy the Mayor’s Race for 100 schooners, races for other classes, deck tours, public sails, lighted boat parade, fireworks, and other maritime activities.  Sponsored by the Gloucester Schooner Festival Committee and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.

7th Annual Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta – September 3-7

The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race where historic schooners and modern sloops meet for a week of fun and lively competition. Seating on board the schooners is available to the public and offers spectators a rare chance to be in the race alongside the crew. Entertainment is provided on shore.

Ribn' Blues Festival – September 6-7

Massachusetts Aquaculture Association’s Shellfish Shindig – September 14

Come enjoy oysters, quahogs and steamers by the bucket and meet the shellfishermen and women that farm them. This celebration of mollusks will showcase the varied salty delicacies of Massachusetts' waters as well as sustainable aquaculture traditions. Each grower will sell food and Samuel Adams Brewery will provide beer.
