The Wildwoods Where the Summer Never Ends Announces Fantastic Fall Events

 

The Wildwoods, NJ, September 3, 2008 – As the school bells call the kids back to their academic routines and adults reflect on the excitement of a bygone summer, a sizzling “second season” in the Wildwoods is just starting to warm up!  The fun continues well into the fall here in the Wildwoods, where the summer never ends, with September bringing some of the best weather and the warmest water temperatures of the year; and the crisp air of a sunny October afternoon calling all weekend warriors back to shore to enjoy an extensive calendar of special second season events.

 

The Roar to the Shore Motorcycle Rally kicks off the post-Labor Day activities. Thursday, Sept. 4 through Sunday, Sept.7, bikers will “roar” into town from all over the region for a weekend full of activities. Whether you’re interested in shopping for motorcycle apparel, participating in a poker run for cash prizes or shining up your bike for a charity ride to help support the local United Way, this weekend has something for everyone. Running in conjunction with Roar to the Shore, Fast Lane Promotions will be hosting a Pro Builder Chopper Show held inside the Wildwoods Convention Center. Bike builders from throughout the United States will be in attendance to show off their finest customized work of chrome and pure horsepower.

 

If a competitive weekend is more your style, then North Wildwood is the place to be Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 7 for the 39th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament. String up your line and buy extra bait because this tournament, running from Third Avenue to the beaches at the Hereford Inlet, pays out in cash prizes for both the adult and youth divisions.

 

North Wildwood is holding its annual Mummers String Band Weekend and Strutters Contest in the Lighthouse District of Angelsea on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6 and 7. Each year, thousands turn out to hear the legendary Philadelphia Mummers String Bands and to see Mummers strut in their multicolored sequined costumes. This phenomenal event fills the streets with music and dancing and fills the soul with joy and nostalgia.

 

The New Jersey State Firemen’s Convention will meet in the Wildwoods Thursday, Sept. 11 through Saturday, Sept. 13 for conferences, safety demonstrations, fun and pageantry. This event brings firefighters from nearly every community in the state to the place where summer never ends, to strengthen their bond of brotherhood. The highlighted event of the weekend is the Firemen’s Parade on Saturday, Sept.13, which runs the entire length of the island on New Jersey Avenue. 

 

Among the busiest weekends of the Wildwoods’ second season is Thursday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 21with four fantastic events scheduled. In the city of Wildwood, automobile enthusiasts will converge on the Boardwalk for the 15th Annual Boardwalk Classic Car Show spanning the entire weekend. Complementing the largest car show of the year is the Boardwalk Classic Car Auction at the Wildwoods Convention Center, hosted by the Greater Wildwoods Hotel Motel Association. Also during this weekend, in North Wildwood, the annual Irish Fall Festival will be in high gear all along Olde New Jersey Avenue in the city’s Angelsea district where sea of people flood the island with Celtic spirit. Visitors throughout the country make this event a “can’t miss” part of their yearly vacation plans. The fifth fantastic event this weekend is Wildwood Crest’ annual Seafarers Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 20along Sunset Lake, where there will be a wide array of vendors and crafters, live entertainment and family fun ending with a bang over Sunset Lake with a beautiful display of fireworks.

 

Sunset Lake is also the place to be on Saturday, Sept. 27, as the Wildwood Crest Adventure Races take place, testing participants’ physical ability and endurance with a triathlon consisting of running, kayaking and bicycle races for both adults and children.

 

“Thunder” also comes to the beaches of Wildwoods during the last weekend of September with the Thunder on the Beach Monster Truck Races, Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 28. While the rumble of high-powered engines echo over the sand, a change of speed can also be enjoy at the Wildwoods’ Olde Time Italian Festival on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27. This free festival, coordinated by the Order of the Sons of Italy of America, features authentic Italian food, music, crafts, raffles and more. The highlight of this year’s festival is a free concert at the Fox Park Amphitheater starring Wayne and Jamie and the Aquanets, ERA 200 Band, 45 RPM, Joey & Mickey, Joey M, the Classics, The Exceptions, the Emotions, Charlie Gracie, the Soul Survivors, Joey Dee and the Starlighters, Lenny Coco and the Chimes and Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon.

 

At the Wildwoods Convention Center hosts the 2nd Annual Wildwoods by the Sea Film Festival Thursday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 28. Exciting new films from filmmakers all around the world will be exhibited, in addition to film screenings, workshops, awards ceremonies and after-parties with famous actors, directors, producers and filmmakers – a weekend not to be missed by movie lovers. The Wildwoods Convention Center will also be hosting the South Jersey Roller Derby Championships Saturday, Sept. 27. Whether it’s your first time or you’re familiar with this high-speed-hard hitting sport, the Derby promises to be an evening jam-packed with excitement.
