HIDDEN NATURAL TREASURES UNVEILED IN LAKE GEORGE, NEW YORK

09-18-2008

WARREN COUNTY, N.Y.  (September 17, 2008) – Warren County Tourism recently unveiled a new scenic town and country tour on its website, www.VisitLakeGeorge.com. The tour takes visitors over the main corridors to the roads less traveled, into the towns and villages that define the Lake George Area in New York’s Adirondacks, and to locations of 13 hidden scenic and natural treasures.

Although local events and attractions regularly draw visitors to the area, the upcoming leaf-peeping season is sure to hold great appeal. The detailed tour and locations of some off-the-beaten-path secret attractions help first-timers as well as seasoned visitors find some lesser-known treasures as they explore the back roads of The Lake George Area.

Also listed on the Web site are several unique ways visitors can experience the Adirondacks, including paddling through wildlife-filled wetlands, hiking to view spectacular waterfalls and unique rock formations, biking down mountain roads and taking a shuttle back to the car, exploring geological wonders such as metamorphic rocks carved by a rushing river, or visiting a working garnet mine where the hardest garnet anywhere in the world can be found.

These are only a sampling of the exciting, affordable seasonal activities vacationers can find in the mountains, lakes, towns, nature trails, restaurants, antique shops and museums throughout the magnificent Lake George Area in New York’s Adirondacks.

Special events coming up this fall are another reason to visit. The 36th annual Adirondack Balloon Festival returns to Warren County on Sept. 18 and takes adventure seekers to the skies until Sept. 21. Entertainment, food and family fun will take place on the ground while vividly colored balloons dance in the skies overhead. For more information, go to www.adirondackballoonfest.org.

The cooler breezes of late September and early October usher in early Halloween scares for kids of all ages with Fright Fest at the Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom (weekends from Sept. 27 to Nov. 2).  For more information on the many macabre attractions and spooky shows visit www.sixflags.com/greatescape.

Those looking for more thrills this Halloween season can always meander down Up Yonda Farm Environmental Center’s haunted trails and barns. Be sure to wear a costume and have a thrilling time with scarecrows, witches, ghosts and goblins. For more information, visit www.upyondafarms.com or go to www.VisitLakeGeorge.com to learn about the many Halloween-inspired events in the area.

October also features the popular World’s Largest Garage Sale (Oct. 4-5) in Warrensburg. More than 1,000 vendors will flock to the town, which includes an entire community of garage sales, food, entertainment and more. For details, visit www.warrensburghchamber.com.

If that isn’t enough, there’s still so much more to explore in the Lake George area, like Oktoberfest at the Great Escape, a chocolate festival, fall film festivals, harvest walks and farmers’ markets, gondola rides, scenic and fall foliage train rides, arts festivals, boat shows, comedy shows, cruises on the lake and live theater productions. There are also ample opportunities for camping and fishing this fall in Warren County.

The locations of scenic trails, fall events, activities, available lodging and other hidden treasures in the Lake George Area can be found at www.visitlakegeorge.com. Warren County’s 2008 Autumn Brochure can also be ordered from the site.
