Dear Friends,

Years ago I took a trip to Chianti that changed my life. It was my first farmhouse rental in Italy. We left Philadelphia in late March, dressed for winter, with almost four feet of snow on the ground. When we arrived in Milan, it was 70 degrees! We made our way down to the Chianti Hills, between Siena and Florence, and finally found our farmhouse long after dark. When we awoke the next morning and opened our shutters to the Chianti Hills in full spring glory, we were enchanted. This was where Doorways began.

Until now, we have not devoted a newsletter to this beautiful region, mostly because I thought it spoke for itself. But lately I've been thinking more and more about it, and about how comforting it can be, in difficult times, to hold onto a dream. I think it is time to focus on this magical area that stole my heart, because Chianti is a place of dreams - a place where dreams come true.

Ciao, Kit

INSIDER TIPS: The Best of Chianti

WINE ESTATES: When you think of Chianti, you can't help but think of wine. Drive the Strada Chiantigiana (S222), the ancient wine road between Florence and Siena. Use our vineyard map and recommendations to visit wineries, stopping along the way to taste and buy Chianti Classico to enjoy at your villa. Doorways represents several wine estates in the Chianti Classico region. Here are two we think are special:

Casavecchia was one of the very first properties Doorways represented. Today, it remains one of our most successful properties and best values, proving that you don't have to scrimp on character, even if your budget is small. This is a chance to experience authentic charm on a family-run vineyard; you can even help with the harvest if you are there in late September.
