President-Elect Obama Joins the Famous and Infamous at San Francisco’s Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf
Right around the time that Barack Obama is settling in at the White House, he’ll also be taking up residence a coast away at San Francisco’s famed Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf, 145 Jefferson St. Also joining him will be Justin Timberlake, who beat out competitors Dale Earnhardt and Tupac Shakur in an online poll. The Wax Museum’s collection in 2009 will also be expanded to include a new “age-accurate” Queen Elizabeth and the teen sensation Miley “Hannah Montana” Cyrus. Earlier this year, a team of Bay Area celebrity judges, led by “Mr. San Francisco Nightlife,” Harry Denton of Starlight Room fame, voted to include Mother Theresa, Prince William and Mariah Carey who will round out the new “cabinet” for the Wax Museum in 2009. “Wicked” Returns to San Francisco. For Good. Tickets on Sale Now for “Wicked”
There really is no place like home. The city that launched the international smash hit musical will get its very own production when “Wicked” sweeps in to the Orpheum Theatre, 1192 Market St., beginning performances on Jan. 27, 2009. Following its 2003 world premiere in San Francisco, “Wicked” went on to cast its spell on Broadway, winning 20 major awards, including the Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical. The “New York Times” calls “Wicked” "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" and "one of the most successful shows in Broadway history," and “Variety” says that "‘Wicked’ is a cultural phenomenon." Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, “Wicked” is the untold story of the witches of Oz: the remarkable odyssey of two unlikely friends who grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
