New getaway trend: Go wild

01-06-2009

Our ideal vacation was once a trip to a quiet place with magnificent views, far away from the noisy city.

But tourism trends have changed – for the wilder. The Travel Industry Association of America has estimated that about 10 percent of Americans have taken an adventure-travel trip, and that number is growing by about 10 percent a year.

What kinds of activities count as adventure travel? Mountain climbing, hunting and bungee jumping, to name a few.

“Hunting is a very exciting activity that combines beautiful views and adrenalin. And over the last year, more and more people have been choosing it,” said T. Michael Riddle, Native Hunt CEO (http://www.nativehunt.com/). Native Hunt is a hunting guide service located in California’s beautiful Monterey and Fresno counties as well as the panhandle area of Florida.

Why are adventurous activities more appealing than calmer, quieter ones? The reason is simple: we spend too much time in the office, overworking ourselves. Our daily routine makes us so anxious that when it comes time to plan a holiday, we feel the need to do something different, something adventurous that we can tell great stories about later.

Because of this, more and more people are turning their backs on typical beach-and-hotel vacations, opting instead for totally new experiences. They want to take risks and discover new activities like hunting exotic game, fishing, swimming and shooting rifles in a target range – all much more thrilling than building sand castles.

Novice adventure travelers, please read following tips from Native Hunt:

Have a health check up

  • Exercise for at least four months before your adventure trip to avoid muscular fatigue
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid exhaustion and dehydration
  • Sleep well, at least eight hours the night before your adventure
