Resolving to Travel Smarter and Cheaper

By Judi Janofsky & Rich Steck

Every New Year's Eve we have dinner with my sister and her husband. Like most people, we make the traditional resolutions. But instead of sharing them, we write them like secret ballots to be hidden away until next New Year's Eve. The fun part of this ritual comes when we read the previous year's resolutions and see how close we came to fulfilling them. 1. Travel Shorter - Instead of taking seven-to-10-day trips, cut them down to three-to-four days, saving on hotels, meals and gas.

2. Plan Ahead - The sooner you start, the better. You'll have more choices and better deals to consider.
