Research commissioned by the UK's leading website for the recreational lettings market - NoblesVenues.com - has revealed the outstanding value offered by the range of historic castles available to rent on a self-catering basis across England, Scotland and Wales.
The survey, which looked at individual properties sleeping 10 or more guests, found that the average weekly rental price for a castle or stately home, was just $229 (£176) per person per week in low season, rising to $303 (£233) per person per week in high season. This is staggering value when you consider that this will lead to the holiday experience of a lifetime … sole occupancy of a fortified castle, many dating back more than 700 years.
Indeed, with average prices starting at just $33 (£25) per night, these castles are actually cheaper than roadside lodges, guesthouses, modern hotels and even some campsites.
Commenting on the findings, Joe Simpson, Marketing Director at NoblesVenues.com stated: “Considering the generally very high quality of the UK's big holiday houses, many of which enjoy spectacular locations, this survey helps to explain the growth of the market. A party of golfers from the USA, for instance, can now fly to Scotland, play some of the greatest courses in the world, such as St Andrews, Troon and Carnoustie, and, in the evening, retire beside the roaring log fire in an ancient stone castle ... all without breaking the bank. These castles, and a range of stately homes and historic houses, also make excellent bases for fly fishing or walking holidays, or for cultural tours taking in such attractions as The Edinburgh Festival or Shakespeare plays at Stratford-upon-Avon.”
NoblesVenues.com includes self-catering properties and big holiday houses that offer a recommended list of external caterers, right through to fully-serviced accommodation available on either a bed and breakfast or full board basis. This allows every party to work to an individual budget while enjoying the unparalleled access to buildings with a rich historical heritage.
“Over the past 12 years we have seen a steady growth in demand for big holiday houses,” explains Simpson. “This has been reinforced by the credit crunch and the falling value of Sterling that has made UK venues look even more attractive to holidaymakers from the USA. At the same time the “baby boomers” are all now reaching significant birthdates and wedding anniversaries, and find these large self-catering rental properties are ideal for celebrating with family and friends.”
