THE BRILLIANT AUTUMN COLORS OF CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES TAKE CENTER STAGE ON PETER DEILMANN’S TWO NEW “FALL FOLIAGE” CRUISES

02-19-2009

Deilmann Offers $1,500 Per Person Savings and $99 Round-Trip Air With a Package of Shore Excursions

New York, February 2009 -- Peter Deilmann has announced two new 14-day “Fall Foliage” cruises, showcasing Autumn's vibrant colors as the luxury flagship 520-passenger MS Deutschland makes its way along the Eastern seaboard of Canada and the U.S.  While the Oct. 6, 2009 departure focuses mostly on Canada and the Oct. 20 sailing spends much of its time in the U.S., they both share many of the region's most popular ports -- Bar Harbor, with its soaring granite cliffs; Halifax, of maritime renown; Sydney, famous for its rocky coastal scenery; and Quebec, whose forests are brilliant with autumnal foliage.  Fares are reduced to $4,200 to $15,500 per person, double, a savings of up to 26% over normal fares of $5,700 to $17,000.  Deilmann's $99 air fare package includes roundtrip air from dozens of North American gateways as well as pre-arranged shore excursions and transfers, representing a $600 value.  Passengers arranging their own air receive an allowance of $750 per person, deductible from the cruise fare.

While in Montreal, the departure port for both cruises, guests can explore the sculpture garden at Mount Royal Park, a wooded escape from the bustling city, or take in a show at the Place des Arts, home to the world-renowned Montreal Symphony Orchestra.  Foliage and sightseeing attractions in the other shared ports include Cape Breton Highlands National Park, home to the famous Cabot Trail, near Sydney; Bar Harbor's Acadia National Park – rich in history as the first national park east of the Mississippi river; Halifax's Citadel, a National Historic Site and 19th-century naval base; and the Old World charm of Quebec City, with its horse-drawn carriages, pastel roofs and signs in French, as well as the opulent Chateau Frontenac, perched high above the St. Lawrence River.

Passengers on the Canadian-focused Oct. 6 voyage also get to take in the stunning mountain views of the Saguenay River before arriving in La Baie, where French cuisine reigns; spend a free day exploring Prince Edward Island's Charlottetown -- choosing from the island’s red sandstone cliffs and city full of gingerbread-trimmed houses, or attractions such as the Art Gallery and Province House; and shop in the unique gift and craft stores during a stay in the bustling town of Corner Brook, on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland.  Reduced fares are $4,200 to $14,920 per person, double.

The second voyage adds popular U.S. ports of call -- Portland, Newport, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore.  Portland, named the cleanest city in the United States by Reader’s Digest, offers more than 150 art galleries and museums; while Newport, settled by Quakers in the 17th century, and well known as the summer resort for America's wealthiest 19th-century families, offers up the country's oldest Quaker meetinghouse, oldest synagogue, and oldest tavern, the White Horse.  Following two days in New York, where visitors can take in the colorful autumnal splendor from Belvedere Castle’s panoramic view of Central Park, visit must-see sites such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, or attend an award-winning Broadway show, the MS Deutschland pulls into Philadelphia -- home to the most historic square mile in America, more than 90 museums, flourishing parks, and countless other options for guests during their two-day stay.  The voyage ends in Baltimore, where the Inner Harbor houses the city’s leading attraction, the National Aquarium, as well as dozens of restaurants, bars and shops.  New lower prices are $4,340 to $15,500.

The MS Deutschland, with 286 staterooms, is designed in the elegant style of the Edwardian and 1920 eras and provides travelers with a more intimate cruising experience, thanks to a guest to crew ratio of two-to-one.  Features of the nine-deck ship include three gourmet restaurants, an outdoor dining terrace plus seven diverse bars and cafes; a spacious library lounge; outdoor and indoor pools; three sun decks and an open-air promenade deck; grand ballroom for nightly entertainment and dancing; and a wellness center equipped with fitness and spa facilities.  Smoking is not permitted onboard except in open deck areas, the Old Fritz Pub and Lili Marleen Bar.

The 2009 voyage roster offers 34 world-class itineraries of seven to 23 nights, taking in destinations ranging from the culturally wealthy cities of Europe, the Black Sea and Africa’s beautiful Cape Town to exotic regions in South America and the Amazon and the ancient and fascinating countries of Asia and the Middle EastPort charges of $125 per person, and air taxes and air fuel surcharges (currently $435) are additional; cruise fuel surcharges are no longer collected.  Details on the cruises, $99 air/excursion package, optional excursions and other amenities, are available from travel agents or Peter Deilmann Ocean Cruises at 1-800-348-8287 or by E-mail at pdcmail@deilmann-cruises.com.  Cruises itineraries, deck plans and ship photos are online at www.deilmann-cruises.com
