Hotspots For Singles And A Great Hotel Package

—What’s Not To Love?

PHILADELPHIA, February 18, 2009 Thanks to its “City of Brotherly Love” and “Place That Loves You Back” monikers and the iconic Love sculpture that anchors Center City’s Love Park, Philadelphia has long been identified with that most euphoric of emotions. It should come as no surprise that hundreds of singles-friendly attractions across the region attract those on the search for love.

Singles visiting the region this winter can take advantage of the popular Philly Overnight® Hotel Package, which comes with an extra incentive this season thanks to the new Love campaign. As always, the two-night offer, available at more than 30 hotels throughout the region, includes free hotel parking (valued at up to $75), a Philadelphia Privileges coupon book and a Philly’s More Fun® teddy bear. What’s more, 100 lucky hotel package buyers who book and redeem their stay before March 16 will be randomly named “Philly Guest of the Day.” Upon check-in, they’ll receive any number of prizes, including tickets to attractions and museums, hotel upgrades and gift certificates for restaurants, nightlife venues and shops. The package is bookable online at

Now a look at two dozen places to meet Mr. or Ms. Right:

Work Up A Sweat:

  1. Pedal along with The Bicycle Club of Philadelphia on one of many regularly scheduled free weekend and evening rides, plus frequent special events like barbeques, banquets, picnics and overnight trips.
  2. The Fishtown Beer Runners are the ideal organization for those who like to cool down after a sneaker-clad jaunt with a tall mug of suds while possibly washing it down with a “tall drink of water.” Members and guests meet Thursday evenings to run three-to-five miles before rewarding their stamina with quality craft beer purchased at a local pub. Runners of all levels are welcome.
  3. People looking to put a little spring in their step can find it at a dance school. At the Society Hill Dance Academy, $20 buys entry into one of many drop-in dance classes, where no partner, experience or reservation is needed for a 45-minute group introduction to the salsa, cha-cha, foxtrot and rumba. At DanceSport Academy, participants are encouraged to switch partners during monthly ballroom and Latin dance socials, which cost $10 for drinks, dancing and performances. And for older dancers, the Peppermint Dance Club offers lessons for beginner

and intermediate steppers followed by a dance party with dinner or refreshments three nights a week, all for $12. Society Hill Dance, 409 S. 2nd Street, (215) 574-3574,; DanceSport, 1 W. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, (610) 642-2525,; Peppermint Dance, The Church On the Mall, 500 Germantown Pike West, Plymouth Meeting, (610) 558-4556,

  1. Strike up a conversation with the gal or guy in the next lane while bowling at any of the city’s three luxe bowling lounges. North Bowl, Strikes Bowling Lounge and Lucky Strike all score big with the hipster and young professional sets, and all of them keep their full bars and kitchens rolling until late into the night. North Bowl, 909 N. 2nd Street, (215) 238-BOWL,; Strikes, 4040 Locust Street, (215) 387-BOWL,; Lucky Strike, 1336 Chestnut Street, (215) 545-2471,

For The Love Of Food…Wine…Beer:

  1. If the quickest way into a man’s heart is through his stomach, Foster’s must have guys lining up at the door. Between formal cooking and entertaining courses held by Temple University Center City, one-session classes taught by the Delaware Valley’s most renowned chefs (most run about $50), and free demonstrations every Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the home store’s professional kitchen is always on fire. 399 Market Street, (215) 925-0950,
