Two classical commissions to premiere at SMF 2009
CHRISTOPHER THEOFANIDIS - SYMPHONY (2009)
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
will perform a new Symphony by Christopher Theofanidis at the festival finale on April 5. Written for an orchestra of 95 members (the largest to appear in Savannah in some time), the new piece will be followed by an explosive end: Marcus Roberts playing Gershwin's "Concerto in F" with the orchestra. lorenza borraniCOMPOSER ALEXANDRA DU BOIS DESCRIBES NEW PIECE: Chanson d'Orage was commissioned by the Savannah Music Festival 2009 and was written specifically for violinists Daniel Hope and Lorenza Borrani (pictured left). "I met Daniel Hope in January 2006 when, as the violinist of the Beaux Arts Trio, he premiered my Piano Trio, L'Apothéose d'un Rêve, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Bonnie Raitt concert rescheduled for October 16
Due to a dire family health emergency, Bonnie Raitt has rescheduled her March 18 concert at the Johnny Mercer Theatre in Savannah for October 16, 2009. In an official statement from her management, Raitt relayed that she is “very sorry and regrets any inconvenience to her fans.” The highly anticipated return of Bonnie Raitt to Savannah is now scheduled for Friday, October 16 at 7:30 pm. Allan Harris and Cross that River to play free show at the end of Black History Month
In addition to appearances at ten Chatham County elementary schools during his SMF artist residency, multi-talented singer Allan Harris will appear for free at First Bryan Baptist Church on February 28th at 2 pm. All are welcome!


Silent Films returning to SMF 2009
Pianist/silent film accompianist Rick Friend is coming back to SMF on March 28 and 29 for screenings of three classic silent films at Charles H. Morris Center:
Charlie Chaplin's "The Immigrant" (1917) and "The Kid" (1921)
F.W. Murnau's "Sunrise" (1927)
