IN MARCH, THE WAYFARERS’ ITALIAN WALK LEADER ALESSANDRO TOMBELLI HEADS TO PHILLY

02-24-2009

TO TALK FLOWERS AND GARDENS AND SHARE A GLIMPSE OF HIS MAGICAL WALKS THROUGH TUSCANY, VENICE AND ITALY’S LAKES REGION

The Wayfarers is now scheduling free Tombelli-led Walks through some of the Philadelphia area’s most beautiful gardens, March 10-13

Newport, RI  (February 21, 2009) – Most often seen trekking the hills of Tuscany, international horticulture authority Alessandro Tombelli will be traveling the gardens and parks surrounding the Philadelphia-area in early March, making a rare U.S. visit to discuss his new book The Garden Connection: Life and Adventures of a Tuscan Gardener.  He will also talk about the Walks he leads through Italy on behalf of The Wayfarers, the world’s premier walking vacation company.  Born and raised in Florence, Tombelli is one of the world’s leading specialists in international garden restoration and design.  A member of the Royal Horticultural Society, he is a garden consultant, advisor to many historic villas and estates across Europe, and a passionate Wayfarers’ Walk leader.

Following a speaking engagement at the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 8, Tombelli will offer a glimpse into The Wayfarers experience.  He will lead Walks through some of the Philadelphia area’s most celebrated gardens and parks over a four-day period, March 10 - 13, and will discuss the Walks he leads through Tuscany, Umbria, Italy’s Lakes region, and Venice.  Like his Wayfarers Walks, these “sneak peeks” at the Wayfarers’ style will take place on foot and be followed by wine and cheese receptions.

Walkers can join Tombelli on the trail, free of charge, at the following locations:

Tuesday, March 10 – Wissahickon Park

Wednesday, March 11 – Valley Forge Park

Thursday, March 12 – Brandywine River Museum and Chadds Ford Historical Society Museum

Friday, March 13 – Longwood Gardens

Those interested in learning more about The Wayfarers, joining one of Tombelli’s Philadelphia-area walks, or reserving one of his 2009 Wayfarers Walks may contact The Wayfarers at (800) 249-4620 or email judyallpress@thewayfarers.com.   For walks in the UK and Europe, pay by March 31 and receive a value-added savings of $800 per couple.
