Four New Guides Help Travelers Discover & Enjoy Kansas

Kansas Visitors Guides, Calendar of Events, Great Outdoor Guides and Scenic Byways Guide Now Available for 2009!

Feb. 24, 2009, Topeka, Kan. … The state of Kansas is proud to announce the release of 2009-2010 Official Kansas Visitors Guide, 2009 Official Kansas Calendar of Events and the first Kansas Great Outdoors Guide and Kansas Scenic Byways Guide.

1.    The 2009-2010 Kansas Visitors Guide features an array of information from around the state, from Kansas City to Dodge City, Wichita to Abilene, and Goodland to Fort Scott. The 2009-2010 visitors guide includes travel information, a roundup of things visitors can see and do around the state, how to experience the world’s largest tallgrass prairie, the majestic Flint Hills, the best family-friendly spots along I-70 and an intensive trip planner so each visitor can embrace the essence of Kansas.

2.    The Kansas ! 2009 Calendar of Events lists hundreds of events, festivals and exhibits happening throughout the year in Kansas, from the big cities like Topeka and Wichita to the smaller towns of Hays and Manhattan. Featured events include the Wichita River Festival, May 8-16; Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, June 11-14; Dodge City Days Festival, July 24-Aug. 2; and Fort Larned Celebrates 150 Years, Oct. 10-11.

3.    The Kansas Great Outdoors Guide showcases Kansas’ abundant outdoor experiences and contains a wealth of information, from Kansas’ best hunting and fishing spots to camping and RVing at nearly two-dozen state parks.  Descriptions of the more than 2,000 miles of trails and available water sports on lakes, rivers and reservoirs accompanies information on the various wildlife and natural preserves and a guide to Kansas’ nine scenic byways. A trip planner and state map are also included, to make each outdoor experie! nce easy and enjoyable.

4.    The Scenic Byways of Kansas Guide highlights the breathtaking landscapes and incredible terrain and wildlife surrounding each of the nine scenic byways in Kansas, two of which are designated National Scenic Byways. The scenic byways guide includes background information, scenic places and points of interest to stop at, festivals and events to visit and wildflowers to view while traveling on each of the nine byways. The scenic byways guide also includes a pullout map featuring the location of each byway throughout the state and a seasonal wildflower guide.

Kansas Travel & Tourism also recently re-launched their website at www.TravelKS.com. The site provides comprehensive and current information on all that Kansas has to offer. Visitors can create their own Kansas adventure wi! th the trip planner featuring “Ready Made Adventures” (RMAs), explore events around the state and search photos that are accessible to view and download. Candid Kansas, a new feature to the website, lets visitors and residents share stories and photos about their own Kansas travel experience!
