This summer's events in Switzerland: from ice cold to steaming hot


As the summer gets closer, temperatures are rising. And over the course of this year, some pretty hot events are coming up.  But we all know: It’s not always the hottest event that is the best. Pretty cool…
Bern and Zürich are hosting the “2009 IIHF World Championship”, the biggest sports event in Switzerland in 2009. Experience ice hockey at the highest level and use the opportunity to visit two wonderful Swiss Cities that are going to be charged with a festive atmosphere during the games.  >>
 
Sunny…
Van Gogh, famous for his sunny landscapes, comes to Basel. Between April 26 and September 27, the Kunstmuseum Basel exhibits paintings from every creative period of the master. The museum plans to assemble works from around the globe that portray landscapes. The exhibition represents a rare opportunity to see such a broad cross-section of Van Gogh’s paintings in one place – Basel.  >>
 
It’s getting hot…
For the first time, Zürich will be hosting the biggest gay & lesbian event in Europe – the “Europride”. During one month (May 2 – June 7), the streets will heat up with a large variety of gay & lesbian events, covering all aspects of daily life: culture, politics, science and sports. Everybody is welcome to join the celebrations.  >>
 
...or even sweaty!
During the UCI Road World Championship in the southern canton Ticino (September 23-27), cyclists will break out in sweat when tackling the steep and challenging courses they will compete on. During the event at least 250,000 spectators are expected and over 100 television stations will broadcast the races worldwide.  >>
